Yeah, those were the damn days. I don't believe MTV spoiled everything because just look at some of the fabulous music that made a big impact back then on the station. The corporate mentality fucked everything up.

This thread was a nice surprise.

Cyndi is rarely meantioned here at the org. She's very underrated, both as a songwriter and as an singer and interpreter.

I still think that Cyndi is a better songwritter than Madonna...

Yes but Cyndi didn't write quite a few of her defintive songs ("True Colors", "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", "I Drove All Night"). It would be hard to find Madonna's defintive songs that she wasn't a writer of. Cyndi's a great writer, though. "Hat Full of Stars" might be one of the most beautiful songs ever!

Does anyone here have her "The Great Cyndi Lauper" import boxed set. It's super cheap at Best Buy (probably on their site as well)...Only $13.99 for three discs that includes all of her hits and super rarer hits like "Goonies R Good Enough" and "Hole In My Heart (That Goes All the Way To China)". Gotta get that if you don't have it!

yep that 's correct.

But I don't see madonna writting songs like The Ballad of Joe & Cleo and Sally's Pigeons.

Or even one of my personnal anthems that is "You don't know"

Posting so much at the org is making me a madonna hater day by day!
lol

i dont mean that as a diss to madge but come on now folks...as much as i love janet no way in hell do i consider her a songwriter. artist got hip to cash flow and power game a long time ago.

but cyndi, i've seen cyndi sit down with a guitar and talk about the craft of songwriting....i've seen madge with a guitar too...but my eyes and ears started to bleed and that was that.

I love them both.

I find it funny that the critics never seem to get things right. They said Cyndi would have the larger impact over Madonna, That Debbie Gibson would outlast Tiffany and Kylie and that Britney was going to be the next Madonna and Christina would have to settle for second best.

My vote goes to Cyndi solely because "She So Unusual" was the 1st or 2nd tape that I owned, with the other one being Duran Duran's "Rio."

Isn't she going to the UK? It's usually cheap to get flights there this time of year.
