This is a tough one! I listen to Madonna more to this day, but I sure as heck wore out my Cyndi tapes back in the day.

nod I'm glad somebody else appreciates this one. She's got a lot of attitude on this one.

Oh if you've got the remastered version of SSU, listen to the live performance of All Through The Night that's on there. Stunning.

Didn't know there was one. When'd it come out? Is it an import?

No, it should be the version stocked in all stores now. I think it came out in 2001. It has these extra tracks:

Money Changes Everything (Live)
She Bop (Live)
All Through The Night (Live)

which were B-sides on 12'' singles, if my memory doesn't fail me. I will send you the ATTN one wink

Cyndi gets my vote for having two of the best songs on the whole album:

She Bop

Cyndi. Both of the albums have some crap tracks, so it's a matter of which good tracks you prefer. I don't listen past All Through The Night on SSU, but it doesn't matter since the first 6 songs are so strong. I love Time After Time, adore the Money Changes Everything cover, and appreciate the fact that Cyndi didn't fuck with the genders in When You Were Mine.

That's why I like both those remakes. She made them her own without compromising anything at all about them.

That also applies (probably even more so) to "All Through the Night."

Cyndi seems to have done a lot of great covers in the 80's. I even liked her version of What's Going On, which is a song that should never be covered.

Madonna was released in 1982, SSU in 1984.

Madonna was released in 1982, SSU in 1984.

Madonna's first single was in '82, but the album itself was released in July of '83. And I think Cyndi's was December of the same year.

lol You're right boxed I was confusing it with the release of Everybody.

And SSU was released in October 1983.

SSU was actually 1983. Regardless, they both had hits charting on the pop chart in both 1983 and 1984 and, as you said, were their solo debuts. The comparison is apt. Mike just wanted to voice his dislike for Like A Virgin again.
