Evelyn "Champagne" King:Thread

I've dug Her Jams for the longest time. She had a Cool Vocal Presentation,The Girl is nice on Percussion as well&Stuffed like a Chirstmas Stocking. She made many Jams that I have dug.She was Funky&in the Groove. She is still recording Music but it isn't getting wide Marketing&that is a Shame.any thoughts on Evelyn"Champagne" King?

She's great! I still remember hearing her first single "Shame" back in 1978.It's a true classic that can STILL make people get up and dance.

But my favorite song is "Betcha She Don't Love You"(1982).That was DA JAM back in the summer of '82!

I saw Evelyn King in concert a few years back.At one point in the show, she asks everyone to "make some noise",then sticks her butt out to the crowd, saying "Fellas,I don't think you heard me".

She's also a huge Prince fan as well.I remember an interview from the early 80s where she said "If Prince is the Prince, then I will be his princess".

Her 1984 album 'Face To Face' was produced by Andre Cymone.

When I saw her in concert a few years ago,she seemed rather pissed that the audience wasn't really responding to her new music (she had a new CD out at the time, independently released). She said something like "They consider me Old School, but damn,I'm only in my 30s! How is that "Old School"?".

She had a string of fine singles that still sound good to this day...

"Shame"(1978)
"I Don't Know If It's Right"(1978)
"Music Box"(1979)
"I'm In Love"(1981)
"Love Come Down"(1982)
"Betcha She Don't Love You"(1982)
"Get Loose"(1982)
"Action"(1983)
"Teenager"(1983)
"Shakedown"(1983)

After 1984,I pretty much lost interest but the hits kept coming for her...

"Just For Tonight"(1984)
"Your Personal Touch"(1985)
"High Horse"(1985)
"Flirt"(1988)
"Hold On To What You Got"(1988)

Her debut album SMOOTH TALK{the whole album}was one of the best albums of 1977. A top notch dance/disco record with good ballads. The last song off of that album "The Show Is Over" was sampled by Ice Cube for his 93' hit "U KNOW HOW WE DO IT".

The song "Encore" is by Cheryl Lynn and it's from 1983.It was produced by Jam and Lewis. It's a great song too!
