In 1995, Nina shot and wounded her neighbour's son with a pneumatic pistol after his laughing disturbed her concentration. eek

what the hell was she trying to concentrate on, plans for revolution? Jesus, i thought i was angry, people think i am a nut with my music. times have changed though.

Wait till you hear about jazz musician Sidney Bechet, then lol Oh yeah, times have really changed.

I've heard about that rumor, plenty of times.

Nina Simone just don't give the least fuck. She played in a Harlem jazz club couple of years b4 she died, one thing Dr.Nina REALLY hates is a distracted crowd, so these couple were smoking with each other, having a drink and laughing HARD,,,,,in a Nina Simone gig lol

She stopped playing, looked @ the crowd, blurbed "I'll be goddamned if ya'll ain't the deadest motherfuckers I ever seen" SLAMMED the piano, got up and shouted "go home".

I don't think she's angry, I think she takes her craft way too seriously. All genius artists do; Miles, Lady, Duke, Mingus, Jimi, Sly, Marvin, Stevie and the list goes on & on.

But if she IS angry, then you have to realize that Nina went through rock bottom, bounced back, went through it again and bounced back,,AGAIN. Her life can be summed as a vicious circle, so her anger wasn't made up outta bag full of hot air.

When she said "If I had it my way, I would've been a killer" I don't think she was joking.

i've listened to some coltrane and davis, not saying anything bad other than they just didn't interest me. And in no way do they count as rock, even miles' bitches brew which was fusion doesnt sound like rock to me. I do find them interesting as people but just never was caught by there music like I was with the rockers. Most Jazz musicians would consider it an insult to be called a rocker anyways, they are pretty snobby you know. As far as musician ship etc.., they could play and i'm sure they influenced soloists in rock but that alone does not fit the bill. I have had collections by these guys for years but can barely listen to them, that's just me and i'm not making judgements. when i say i don't get them that is my way of saying i don't dismiss their greatness, merely that i don't get them..

I believe that Trane and Miles would not consider it an insult to be called rock stars. They thought of themselves as musicians first and jazz artists second.

I understand you respect their musicianship, and reasonable minds can disagree, but when I hear John Coltrane (e.g, Giant Steps) and Miles Davis (e.g. Bitches Brew, particularly the early work of the former and the later work of the latter, I hear the same energy, tempo, soul and yes fury of any rock band. For these reasons, I believe that not only did they influence rock and roll, they were rock and roll. This is why Miles Davis is in the RRHOF and 'Trane deserves entry. Other than the instruments, I see little difference between a lot of what Trane and Miles were doing and what most if not all rock musicians do.
