Arthur Alexander - Anna (Go With Him)

Yeah, The Beatles covered this, but this is by far the definitive version. The songwriting and hooks here are fabulous, and his voice is stupendous. Arthur Alexander should have been much bigger than he was, on the level of Ben E. King.

Who else remembers the original version of this track?

I love it. I'm a huge Beatles fan, but they often didn't come close to the originals on their early covers. I remember reading in one book of John Lennon's take on "Anna" as a "boy trying to sing a man's song", and it's true. Arthur Alexander's original is simply tremendous.

That's an excellent (and honest) assessment.

His You Better Move On was one of the first records recorded at Muscle Shoals and covered by another British Invasion band, The Rolling Stones.
