Popular N.Y. DJ dies after being shot 13 times Updated Sun. Dec. 24 2006 2:00 PM ET
Associated Press NEW YORK -- A popular hip-hop disc jockey died Saturday after being shot at least 13 times earlier this month, police said. Carl Blaze, born Carlos Rivera, was shot outside an apartment building near Manhattan's Inwood section on Dec. 7, and his $20,000 diamond chain was stolen, police said. He was taken to Harlem Hospital Center, where he died Saturday. Blaze, 30, was a DJ for hip-hop and R&B radio station Power 105.1 FM for about three years. He had gained a large fan base by spinning records at clubs and on the air on Friday and Saturday nights. Power 105.1 FM was holding a tribute for Blaze on Saturday night. The station is owned by Clear Channel Communications. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time," said Josefa Paganuzzi, a Clear Channel spokeswoman. Police said the investigation into the shooting was ongoing.

If you're making money and you stay in the community, give something back and never, ever, give anyone a reason to hate you, envy you, or want to jack you. It's a shame. I'm sorry he's gone. But a $20,000 diamond chain? Come on now... Two years ago, on Houston Street, a kid worked two jobs and lots of overtime to buy himself a $2,000 cross encrusted with diamonds. He stood on the corner and someone drove up and demanded it. He refused. Got shot. Lost the cross. Lost his life. Our priorities are messed up in a major way. Mike Bloomberg, the Billionaire mayor of New York, doesn't wear any bling and he takes the subway. So wassup?

In my neighborhood, I can't tell you how many cars I've seen with windows busted out of them. I've even had/seen stuff happen that I really don't want to get into on a public forum. It comes with living in the big city. In no way am I justifying the actions of those who took Blaze's life, but it comes with living out here and stuff like this can happen @ any time, anywhere. It is what it is. But no one deserves to get shot 13 times like that. Sounds like some other motives, aside from the diamond necklace were involved. ... [Edited 12/25/06 11:33am] | |

I just think the necklace was stolen cause it was there right. I dont think you get shot 13 times in a simple snatch and grab robbery. | |
