Bjork, Prince & Annie Lennox - Joni Mitchell tribute album

Bjork, Prince, James Taylor and Elvis Costello are among the artists who have recorded covers for "A Tribute to Joni Mitchell," due in the spring via Nonesuch. The 11-track set also boasts contributions from Sarah McLachlan, k.d. lang, Emmylou Harris and Sufjan Stevens.

In related news, Billboard.com has learned that Mitchell has been recording original material at a Los Angeles studio in recent weeks. It is unknown in what form she plans to release the music; she angrily announced she was quitting the music business in 2002 after her last album, "Travelogue."

"A Tribute to Joni Mitchell" comes concurrently with 429 Records' "Endless Highway: A Tribute to the Band," due Jan. 30. That projects boasts covers from Death Cab For Cutie, My Morning Jacket, Jack Johnson and Widespread Panic, among others.

This is great news!

One of her new song titles is "Holy War." Should be interesting.
Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
μηδὲν ὅλως σὺ λυποῦ
πρὸς ὀλίγον ἐστὶ τὸ ζῆν
τὸ τέλος ὁ χρόνος ἀπαιτεῖ.”

imagine him contributing his 1983 version. the one he played live in
concert a few times. just think how great it would be to have studio
material like that...

drool

an extended version of the One Nite Alone album track would be cool
too though.

I hope he does not just give them the version he recorded for his One Nite ALone album. I love it but it's too short and really was used more to convey his feelings for his father rather than an all-out tribute to Joni. As a proud Canadian, I would LOVE to hear him sing the whole song - especially the part:

"On the back of a cartoon coaster
in the blue tv screen light,
I drew a map of CANADA,
O CANADA!!!!! aaaaahhhhh"

that would make my day!

Of course, if he sung a diff version, more like his guitar 1983 version...I'd be just as happy!

Whatever it will be, it will be new to me. Has she covered this one before?

Annie Lennox's "Ladies of the Canyon" was released years ago (a B-Side to "No More I Love Yous I think). I love it though. It has an awesome layered arrangement.
