Mahalia Jackson - "Silent night" Is anyone here familiar with this song? I think it`s by far the best rendition of "Silent night" and i consider it one of the all time classic christmas songs, up there with Nat "King" Cole`s beautiful "The christmas song"...

I grew up on it...
...My Grandmother used to play her version all the time. Magical. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

Well, that is what Mahalia Jackson's rendition of Silent Night does to me.... I grew up on it, too.... "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive."

I`m not that into classical music (probably because i`ve heard so little), but i do like the one i recommended, "In the hall of the mountain king". It`s so dramatic, you feel it...

I`ve probably heard it before, but never paid any attention, maybe it`s because i`ve learned to appreciate music more. The radio is a great place to discover new music...

Excepting, of course, the Ed Sullivan Show, American Bandstand, and later Soul Train as viewed on our black & white TV with rabbit ears on the top. "Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries.
