Jeff Buckley's 'Lover, YOu Should've Come Over' = Greatest song ever?

Stupid question, I know, but that song sounds just about the best I've heard for yonks. No one can pinpoint a single song, but this one is near as near can be.

I've only started digging Buckley in the last 12 months or so, after picking up 'Grace', and, although the album is obviously top-drawer, this one song soars straight out the goddamn stadium.

It's a strange experience listening to it because, even though I've listened to it countless times and the song should bore me by now (like 95% of most songs), it just gets better and better. I could listen to 'Lover, You Should've Come Over' on a loop and I wouldn't tire of it. It took me a few listens to digest, but after I connected, it was one of the best listening experiences ever.

It's a tie for me. This and Sly's 'If You Want Me To Stay' for number one (as of today).

Anyone else a fan of this humdinger of a song?

i still think mama cass's version of 'dream a little dream of me' is the best pop song ever, but i think i might have been dropped on my head as a baby.

ARJUN...
This funk-indie-rock-jazz-groove trio just released their debut album entitled, "Pieces"
It's an instrumental outing with heavy grooves, improvisation and a HUGE Prince influence among others....

eek I was just thinking this the other day! I still remember the very first time I heard it as a kid. I quickly grabbed a tape and recorded it off the radio, only getting the 2nd half of the song. lol I didn't even know who it was.

That, and Tommy James and the Shondells' "Crimson and Clover". cloud9

But yeah, "Lover, You Should Have Come Over" is an amazing song IMO. nod

Jeff had an incredible way of using metaphors man.
U got to pick up his "live in Chicago concert". This
man just will be sorely missed! I was so eagerly waiting
the followup to the Grace album when unfortunately I
read in Rolling Stone he drowned. I was like... You have
got to be kiddin' me!!! Every 5 years or so I link on to
an artist that I really delve into musically. Jeff was
the artist at that time. Noone told me about him. I just
happened to catch a video on VH1 and I "knew" this was
the new musician I was going to follow. Immediately! *sigh*
So now I have everything on dude from book, video to cd.
That song is one of the greatest ever written. PERIOD.

Co-sign to this being a great song! I was actually kinda disappointed by the live verson on the Live in Chicago DVD. The album version is so dynamic and with the band being such, I thought the live version would have been much better than it was. But yes, this is one of hte greatest songs of all time. wink

U know sometimes we listen to an album
version of a song and the band or artist
"live" doesn't capture it the same sonically.
But that's why they call it live. Studio
recording is an art that cannot be duplicated
"live". The acoustics are impossible to
duplicate. But sometimes you may get a "studio"
song that actually sounds better live. I guess
it all depends on taste. Some Prince's live
music sounds wierd to me. Funny, cause I actually
pick the "live" version on the Chicago DVD over
the album version. Funny hungh?
