Do you like The Smiths too?
I'd say start with "Louder Than Bombs", "The Queen is Dead", "Viva Hate" and "Your Arsenal".

My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Bona Drag is a nice place to start - lots of great early Morrissey singles.

Play Everyday Is Like Sunday and just after My Love Life, some of his best under rated songs imo( they were b-side) : Jack The Ripper ( terrific live), Girl Least Likely To, and I'm sure that i'm not alone to think that Driving Your Girlfriend Home is a masterpiece.. too many songs to mention.. I've heard a live version of Now My Heart Is Full from the mid 90s that is wonderful, the guy might be a asshole and an hypocrite sometimes, like a diminutive funk star that we know, but his voice!

If you only buy single songs, start with
suedehead everyday is like sunday hairdresser on fire last of the famous international playboys the national front disco tomorrow jack the ripper (live version from 'Beethoven was deaf') billy budd the more you ignore me, the closer i get why don´t you find out for yourself southpaw alma matters irish blood, english heart first of the gang to die let me kiss you you have killed me the youngest was the most loved that should give you a good impression of mozzers solo-work If you want to buy whole albums, go with bona drag, your arsenal, vauxhall & i and you are the quarry See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

Used to not understand the big deal about Moz and the Smiths.
Frickin' depressing-ass whining lyrics about not being able to hook up with some dude and how working class ppl are truly snobbish. Then, when I turned 28, I "got it". It's brilliant stuff. Right now I'm loving "I'll never be anybody's hero".

I caught his live DVD on VH1 a year or so back - 'Who Put the M in Manchester'
I'm no more than a casual fan but I must say I enjoyed it immensely
