I grew up with her around. I was 10 when she debuted. I thought she was decent enough, but she soon dropped off the radar for me.

I was 10 in '95. I had never heard her before Fantasy, which I really liked. Daydream remains my favorite Mariah album.

Damn I thought I was one of the younger kids on here....shit.

It features most of her worst songs. All My Life is fabuous, though. I should never have bought Rainbow, either. That album was shit.

I actually like the Jam & Lewis "Didn't Mean to Turn You On," of course "All My Life," and I love the Cameo sample on "Loverboy."

I can't stand Loverboy lol It's just a total unblinking atonal mess. It's as if she saw the Mad TV parody of Heartbreaker (Love Muffin) and said, "I'm gonna do that."

I thought Music was pretty weak to be honest. Runaway Lover is drab, bog-standard Euro dance, the title track is probably her most over-rated hit to date, Amazing is Beautiful Stranger without the hook and it also has some yawn-inducing guitar ballads.

The only tracks that still sound good today are Paradise (Not For Me) and... ummm... struggling...

American Life was a much better album - it just didn't have any good singles.

American Life would have done much better had the video been released or the Album was rennamed and a differnt lead single choosen

I don't really think the album was brimming with radio hits. But it did have some bloody good album tracks... Intervention, Easy Ride, Nothing Fails, Nobody Knows Me... all great stuff!

Nothing Fails might have worked as a lead single

Or if she'd released the album in 2006.

I don't have the album but the song "Music" is one of the best songs I've heard this decade, along with some songs by Prince and Jamiroquai. Hell, that's about all that's been worth shit this decade.

speaking of Jamiroquai,I think their 2001 CD 'A Funk Odyssey' is the best album of this decade. They're making the best modern-day disco/dance music right now.Madonna should work with them.

IMO Jamiroquai's music is real while Madonna just jumps on the
disco wagon with some good songs other already wrote 4 her.
I'm not hating,I loved Ray of Light(album) and think Music is one of the best songs I've heard the last decade and hung up was a good single.
Maybe JayKay could put some soul in her music.

Is that the "wingy wingy wingy" song? That's my least favorite from that album, actually.

Ironically, many people say the exact same thing about Jamiroquai...they always get accused of ripping off disco music from the 70s,of not being original,of trying to sound like Stevie Wonder, etc. These criticisms are unfair,of course, just like your Madonna criticisms wink
