You love The Horne, don't you? wink

You shouldn't have taken her avatar down, that was your best ave.

For some reason, I couldn't get into Lena Horne, not as a singer nor as an actress. Esp when you compare her to the singers and actresses of her generation.

And then there's this safe so-called "non-threatening negro" personality she has to put on everywhere she gets on a show with a white per4mer where she suck up to them, like a Sammy Davis routine.

Then again, she did open the door for many black female entertainers,,,which is def a plus for her credit.

I LOVE her, to me she is the definition of strength, beauty and talent (cliché, i know lol)
There`s something about her lyrical phrasing, it`s hard to explain...

I haven`t seen any of her movies, not even "Stormy weather", and when it comes to her music i prefer her 60s and 70s records. "Lena in Hollywood", "Soul", "Lovely and alive" and "Nature`s baby" and "Lena and Michel" are all wonderful albums that i enjoy very much.

I`ve read very little about her, but do recall reading something about theatres in the south refusing to show her movies or cut out her parts hmmm I should get the book written by her daughter...

And about the avatar... Funny you should say that, a few hours ago i just uploaded a new one, the cover of her album "Merry from Lena"...
Maybe i`ll get back to the red "Lovely and alive" avatar later smile

The Lovely and Alive pic is one of my favorite Lena pictures.

I saw her shopping in a record store one day and immediately started shaking which is rare because I seldom get star struck. I smiled and nodded to show acknowledgement and kept walking but inside I was dying. excited

Well this was several years ago now—maybe 6 or 7. She was pretty, small slim build, her hair was pulled back w/a little grey. She wore glasses and a turtle neck. Her skin was smooth and bronzy. There was something about her that made her seem special even if she weren’t a celebrity.

eek Impressive... I would have liked to see some new pictures of her when that time comes, and an interview.
