and her death. I think part of the legend and the tregedy comes from that. and i have a picture of her grave on my cell phone i took when i visited her grave in June.

I don't think her death would have mattered much if she hadn't been such a personality on screen and in still photos. Carole Landis was a suidide in 1948, but no one remembers her. No one remembers Carole Lombard these days (even though she died tragically in the war effort), although they seem to remember Harlow quite well, probably because of her forceful personality. Madonna always said she copied Monroe, I think she copied Harlow. Harlow & Dietrich.

Visually there are lots of Marylin references in Madonna's photospreads and videos. She has also used lots of Harlow and Dietrich. Her public persona is more in tune with Dietrich though it sounds like Marylin and Madonna had the same business sense.

Yeah, I was referring more to her public persona. Harlow was hilarious, very much like Madonna. Madonna adopted the toughness, but not necessarily the accessible likeability of those women.

Seriously, you've gotta love Harlow. Her agent calls her with a new offer and she simply says, "What sort of whore do I play this time?" falloff

Yeah, and there are lots of other candids of them together throughout the decade. Ella wanted to go to Marilyn's funeral but was denied access (shameful). It wasn't for personal or racial reasons, because all Hollywood people were barred from that funeral, including Frank Sinatra.

The irony of course is that Farrah is also imitating an old Monroe photoshoot in this shot.
