I saw the remake with Mark Walhberg in it, but I've never seen the original. Sci-Fi started showing old episodes at one point, but I never got a chance to watch them. I didn't know that either and I would never be able to tell what part is sampled. Isty, can you give us the answer? I just know that there are "whooshing" wind sounds throughout the song. Maybe that's it looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

Well I completely figured that It's really funny because I never really paid that song very much attention but because you love it so much I really fell into it for what seemed like an eternity and I was thoroughly entertained I'm listening to Stories right now and I'm thinking of you, sexton and gangsta Man, I can't believe people actually talk shit about it It's killer all the way through! I have seriously been binging on PJ all weekend and today, because of this thread, and my ears seemed cleansed because of all this discussion and everything sounds just so fantastic to me. Not that it ever sounds bad but it feels fresh right now and being a PJhollic, it's easy to burn out on stuff cuz I listen to it so much. Thanks everyone! . Maybe that's it i don't know either. there are quite a few weird sounds in that song but i think it's that kinda otherworldly 'whale' sound indeed. it sounds like something that could be right out of the movie. from "The Michigan Daily": All the better for Harvey, the arrangements here are flawless and ceaselessly interesting, such as the sample of Jerry Goldsmith's "Planet of the Apes" score that haunts "The Wind," blending with the voice for an aural tapestry of intoxicating power. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Whoa. I finally had some quiet time to really read this.
I live for this kind of analysis. Your interpretation of "The Garden" is just brilliant! You even have me wanting to read the Bible. I'm going to print this out as a companion for the next time I listen to this album. Thanks for all your insight and hard work.

Now do you understand why it was really hard for me to even begin talking about exactly what this album means to me that night at Apples?? And even though we weren't exactly "listening" to the album at Apples, just the fact that I could hear one of my favorite albums ever while being in your presence.....well I had to practically pinch myself to make sure it was happening. That and Dewdrops. You'll never know how important it was for me to listen to those with you I hope you read my fleshed out version of "The Garden" 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

These kinds of things are much easier to write about than to get across verbally. They always seem to make more sense anyway. That was perfect playing Desire and Choirgirl while cooking. Not exactly your ordinary meal prep fare, but it seemed right at the time. And the fact that Apples knows and loves those artists made it all the more special.
