After last night's VMAs I'm sooo glad Prince is not part of that main stream...

Since I don't own a TV I never watch this shit but I was at my neighbors having dinner and they had it on and at first I felt so out of it because I did not know half the "artists" going up there to accept awards...Now my neighbors are in the biz, one of them is in a band that's doing quite well and even he was embarrassed...he was like "is that what I'm a part of?" And I, being the asshole that I sometimes can be, said "afraid so."

Anyway...

where was Erykah Badu, Bjork, Nika Costa...oh wait a minute...talent is shunned by the emptyV execs...

I watched it thinking that it would improve and I was wrong...your right over the years its become this exclusive club for certain artists who are just puppets. IMO Prince along with MJ, Madonna put that network on the map and they don't bother playing any of his videos and are always in a sly way dissing him. So I'm glad that Prince doesn't attend that show anymore!

I didn't watch the VMA's (and yes I do have a TV smile) but I did see some of the clips from the event, and the only thing I can say is that if what was aired on MTV was supposed to represent the "state of Pop Music today" WHY... Why in THE world would any so-called Prince fan want Prince to be a part of the mainstream crowd?

I get a little tired of seeing some of the fans come on the org saying Prince should do "this or that" etc. so he can appeal to the mainstream. I mean, come on... does anyone really want Prince to a part of the crap that gets displayed on MTV? There's virtually no talent in Pop music anymore, and now it's all about who can act the most ignorant to draw the most attention to themselves. It's really quite sad when you think about it.

Is that like wearing assless pants? ... Or bringing a bodygaurd on stage with you when you win an award?

Yes exactly, and it's all nonsense! I'm glad he's matured beyond such things. But even with assless pants, Prince can still actually play the hell out of his guitar and compose music, so in the final analysis, no matter what Prince had done to draw attention to himself he's still actually a true artist which is a heck of a lot more than I can say about a lot the acts out their today.

Acts... hmmm... that's a good word to describe them.

Actually, I think he'd bring alot of light into it if he was...

but as long as he's on my system, that's fine with me.

Nice to read a post of enlightment.
Oops, I'm only supposed to bash MJ. hmm
But most of these music award shows, as well as award shows in general, are just about a whole lot of nothing. A whole lot of people who aren't that talented trying way too hard to be cool.
And whenever the Grammy's show the best performances from past shows, they always leave out Prince in 1985. That was classic. Great music and great fun.
Anyway, you know an award show is in trouble when MJ's latest embarrasement is considered a highlight. I mean, that God awful kiss with Lisa Marie, or last year looking like a rusty tin man with N'Stink. This year, walking into a wall and thanking everyone (except his so-called kids) for a non-existent award. There, I'm back on track. evillol
All I can say is thank again, Prince for the great Celebration this year. Outstanding music and outstanding artists. Keeping it real! music

I'm not defending the VMAs or anything, but I think it's SUPPOSED to be wild and crazy, kinda like a mockery of those other stuffy Awards show (where all the men wear tuxedos, and everything is "scripted").This show appeals to the same young crowd that watches MTV and 'The Osbournes',so I think they actually encourage the artists and the host to act stupid and dumb...lol...

And,as someone pointed out,Prince once appeared on this show wearing yellow ass-less pants. So,clearly,it's not meant to be your average Awards show.

I have to agree that the VMAs are not worth wasting your time watching. Unless you are Britney or a boy band MTV has no interest in you or your music.

The only year it was even slightly interesting was when Prince wore the assless pants.

You don't need to know how to sing anymore to be famous in music.

pretty sad.

if they can sell other products around "you".. they will sign you.

Ryan Star can not sing at all.. BUT she has the vibe that she can.. her moves, its pretend and the sad thing there is a TON of "ryan stars" in music.

Prince stay where your at.

Music & Porn is so much allike.. the contracts, the mob, no talent & the whole BS.

there is not that much difference.. when it comes to POP Mainstream Music in the last 5 years.

Exactly.the first thing the Female VJ on the Show said was that Puffy's Performance was over the top&hit the Spot for that type of show.however they do have there own Standards: Andrew "Dice" Clay remember got Banned.

Their standards bespeaks eMpTV's hypocrisy.

yeah please do? because Deborah Harry aka Blondie once was quoted as saying that in the Porn business you will get Paid. She said that Business was far fairer than the Music Business.they have things in Common but it's pretty much known the Music Business has the worst Contracts of any Business.
