'She Said Yeah' By The Stones-The Start Of Punk? For anyone who can remember this very early Stones song cover by Larry Williams called 'She Said Yeah', I have read by a few fans and music critics that this was one of the songs that gave birth to punk music.
This was indeed a pretty heavy rocking song for its time('65) before Hendrix had arrived on the scene and even before The Yardbirds had really started to get going. Its certainly played punk style, with its speeding tempo, short running time and above all, absoulute energy by the band from Jagger's rushed and hurried vocals to the twin guitar attack of Keith Richards and Brian Jones. So does anyone agree about this claim about this being one of the very first songs that could be classified as a true punk rock track? If so its a little ironic then that when punk really began to emerge in popularity in the seventies that The Stones became one of the biggest targets of criticism from within the punk rock movement. By the way, I have even heard the term 'thrash' applied to describe this song! [Edited 12/14/06 0:07am] [Edited 12/14/06 0:15am]

its fucking incredible I love Helter Skelter, it's an incredible song. I don't really see it as a punk song, though. It's more of an amped up hard-rock track. I really see Iggy and the Stooges as the forerunners of Punk.
