That's a bit harsh. neutral

Their cheap shit hop has dominated the R&B airwaves and kept all other styles of R&B out for 15 years. The only way a style change is going to happen is unless something harsh like this happens because they won't let the styles change naturally around every five years like they used to. They have manipulated things and I just see their downfall as them getting what they deserve.

The Recording Industry Association of America (or RIAA) is a trade group that represents the recording industry in the United States. Its members consist of a large number of private corporate entities such as record labels and distributors, who create and distribute about 90% of recorded music sold in the US.

sad

This is one of the saddest things I have ever read. I still buy all my music on disc/vinyl because for one, it makes me feel like I actually own it as opposed to mp3s which can be wiped out with one unexpected power surge leaving me with nothing. And secondly, music wasn't made to be condensed into crappy sounding digital files. The only times I do download music are when iTunes has those exclusive EPs by artists I like.

I totally agree but this thing...

...puts us in the minority.

Plus i've got to have me some liner notes. Details! reading

You are correct in that most people prefer convenience over quality. sad

I have an ipod shuffle myself, but it's filled only with Prince bootlegs. I purposely wanted to put only substandard quality sounding music on it so I wouldn't get frustrated when listening to it about why the songs don't sound better.

hug You're awesome sextonseven. That's exactly how I am about movies. I only go to movies in the movie theater, unless I have to watch something for work and I never turn on the TV. I'm very picky and purist about my viewing experience. I'm sort of crying inside because film is becoming obsolete and being replaced by digital everything. Everyone says it looks the same, but it doesn't. I can tell the difference and I will always prefer film.

That gets on my nerves too. People are so concerned with making things smaller so they carry them around. Hell, give me something that shakes the walls. If it doesn't get loud and powerful enough to disturb the neighbors, it ain't shit.

Remember the huge boom boxes in the early 1980s. Those things were as loud as a home stereo. I saw some woman in the 1990s on one of those home shopping networks. She kept bragging on how small the damn boom box was she was trying to sell. She kept saying that with new technology, the speakers didn't have to be as big as they used to be. What she didn't tell people, is that the damn boom box wasn't nearly as loud as the bigger older ones.

I have a surround sound system at home so watching movies on DVD is fine with me, but I agree that nothing tops watching a film in a big theater. When my receiver was being fixed for over a month and I couldn't use the surround sound, I refused to watch any DVDs during that time.

If I had a big screen and surround sound, a comfy couch, or even a DVD player giggle I'd probably watch them at home too. But I have none of the above and haven't bothered to get them. lol

Kids need to understand that it is someone's livelihood they are stealing. And yes, it is stealing. The question of course is, how much does this really cost the industry? You can't just say that since downloading began, their turnover dropped by whatever and downloading is solely responsible for that. People would never buy everything they're downloading now.

I download, but usually only stuff you can't find in a store, or stuff I wouldn't pay for in the first place.

That said, the only reason the industry is getting all bent out of shape about downloading is because now they have competition. Oh sure, they say, "You're stealing from artists when you download." Bullshit. The INDUSTRY is the one stealing from the artists. The artists rarely see more than a few dimes from those record sales to begin with. I am an artist, trust me on this one.

The reason the labels don't make as much money now is because they put out and usually only promote shit music that no one wants to buy in the first place. The Beatles would get laughed out of a record exec's office in this day and age!

The industry is only looking for a quick buck, and they use downloading as a scapegoat for the fact that they spend WAY more money than they make. I love cd's too, still buy plenty of em. But the INDUSTRY is the reason music isn't worth shit to people these days, because THEY were the ones who cheapened it to the point that its important roles are to sell burgers, cars, feelings, clothes, etc. I say, Fire up those P2P programs boys 'n' girls!
