MTV VMAs

Are any of you going to watch the VMAs? They do show it live over here on MTV UK in the early hours of Friday morning. I will probably videotape it and fast forward to any artist I like. What about you lot over the pond? Is it a big event for you? They give it a very big build up over here.

Any favourite nominees, presenters. The trailer ad with Natalie Portman and 'Jimmy Fallon is quite funny. This is the guy who has this spoof When Doves Cry bit in his video yeah?

I watched the "Best of the Red Carpet" show last night. Quite good fun spotting all the famous faces. I was quite surprised to see that they showed a clip of Marilyn Manson performing in assless pants, and showing a very saggy non-toned butt, but did not show Prince's (more famous?) appearance booty! wink

I used to live for watching these as well as the Grammys, just for the performers and their live set. Now the magic in that is gone and the main part of the show is seeing what controversy will happen sad

Well if you miss it tonight, MTV will be sure to air it just about every weekend all day long.

If u wanna c the uncut version, better tape it 2nite. When u have the thing on tape, u can fast forward through the commercials and stuff, guess it's watchable then...at times

VMAs are dull (but not as dull as the grammys zzz)...but I still wind up watching them...lol.
The best tactic is to video it so you can fast forward thru all the crap.

I was watching some VMA build up show and they showed clips of all the past performances and Prince was on twice. Been a long while since I saw Prince on MTV. wink

They are on a delay, but stuff always gets past them in the initial broadcast.

I thought the show was the best I've seen in awhile. The camera work was great and lots of surprises including James Brown!

did u guys see Axl Rose performance? it was great! the prodution wasn't specatacular but his running around and his voice made it great.

p.diddy's production vlaue was excellent but the the performance happened too quick and kept changing too fast. the dancing part with the group looked like something mc hammer done.

justin was pretty ok but his costume looked a bit too like what mj would've worn.

eminem got booed!! haha. and christina a. face looked puffed up and she dressed very skank.

mj's clothes were EXCELLENT and i wish i could be worth as him and wear great stuff like that which must have cost thousands for every piece. mj must change his hair to danerous or history. everybody stood up! wow.

jimmy fallon wasn't as exciting as jamie fox(last year's host).

overall, the vmas were kinda shitty, but seeing bruce springsteen, james brown, and eyepop guns n roses (where the hell did they come from) was very, very nice and worth all of the bullshit i had to sit through...

after seeing michael jackson last night, i have come to the conclusion that i can't make fun of his freakish appearance anymore... i actually felt bad for the guy... he looks absolutely terrible... it saddened me... i wonder if he realizes just how terrible he looks... shrug

anyway...

I was kind of upset with the best new artist category. To me, this is probably the only award I care about and think is important. For them to give the award to Avril Lavigne is an insult to real artists everywhere. Of course the nominations left out the really good new artists- Norah Jones, The Strokes, Vanessa Carlton, etc.

I always get upset when I watch these things because crap always wins... POD and Linkin Park? Give me a break.

MJ, Tommy Lee, Mayte. I only bash the bash-worthy and those three definitely qualify.
And if you think I only comment on the MJ threads, you must only read the MJ threads, when you're not posting earth shattering Madonna news. deal
I guess the reason I come down so hard on MJ is that for so long this wacko has been compared to Prince musically and Prince is so far ahead of MJ musically that there is no comparison. Creatively, intellectually and risk-taking is where Prince excels musically and MJ is stagnant.
Prince's guitar playing has gotten even better over the years. MJ is still moonwalking and doing the same dance steps he was doing 10 years ago. And what's up with the shin guards??
My point is that with the exception of age and race, these two have travelled very different musical paths and have very little in common, musically. Prince was never a pop artist, even when he was hugely popular. He is a brilliant musician, and that is something Michael Jackson will never be.
And while Prince is still looking hella good, MJ, well we've all seen the pictures. dead

Umm, Shygirl, you come down on Mike because you don't think MJ comes to Prince musically? Well, that is obvious, he doesn't, but overall entertainer, and I am being real, MJ kicks his ass. You also bash Tommy Lee and Mayte? Oh, get a life, what have any of those three people done to you? Mike is a child molester? Ha! Prove it, little girl...

As for the MTV VMA's, I don't have cable, so I didn't see it. I have seen parts of it on the morning shows. Mike will hopefully be fine, Jimmy Fallon's joke on Mike was funny, Pink was drunk and people should have made fun of her instead of Mike or Em. Moby deserved what Em said to him. If I was Em, I would have done and said the same things. Who is Moby compared to Em? Like Em said in "Without Me", "your too old, let go, nobody listens to techno." Ain't that so true...Christina A looked like trash and she knows it...

Just curious...I watched the show and from what I saw Moby did nothing to provoke Marshall Mathers. It just looked like he got mad at that dog that was talking to Moby. And the dog was busting on Moby, not Marshall. So is there some other time that you are referring to that would have called for Marshall to call Moby out like that. Have you seen the pictures of Mathers up in Moby's face giving him the finger. Eminem is a sissy and he thinks he is a tough guy for bullying around a dude who is 100 pounds in soakin' wet clothes. That dude needs to grow up. I don't even like Moby's music but Marshall would be lucky to have half the amount of talent Moby has.

quote from mtv.com:

"For as much as the VMAs put smiles on the faces of many, it also brought with it its share of disappointments. P.O.D. and Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, both of whom tied Eminem for the most nominations, walked away empty-handed, as did Ashanti, who was up for three awards on her own and one from independent collaborations with Ja Rule and Fat Joe. Britney Spears was also shut out of the three categories in which she was nominated: Best Female Video, Best Dance Video and Best Choreography — all for "I'm a Slave 4 U.""

-Ashanti, the Soul Train ho of the year, walking away empty-handed? But Don Cornelius knows how to pick the winners!
