Ok guys this needs to be discussed. What do you all think of her acting in the film "the next best thing" with Rupert Everett? I actually like the film but is it me or does she seem like a gay british drag queen? I don't know but her acting was kind of strange to me.

There were lot of things wrong with that movie. 1st off, she was 2 old 4 the part. They did make that great "boob-lift" joke, but other than that, her obvious age was not mentioned. 2nd, Rupert Everett hated the original screenplay and demanded that he do the re-write and basically made it a movie about him and Madonna and the real-life friendship they enjoy. There was way 2 much "Madonna" added in2 the character of Abby after that. In the original script, she was a swimming instructor. In the final version, she teaches yoga (a very Madonna-like characteristic). There's lots of others, but yeah, it was pretty bad.

It's a terrible fucking movie. I mean an absolutely terrible fucking movie

interesting....i guess i like it because it's kinda camp and i actually thought her acting was a bit better than some other films i've seen her in. i didn't realise they changed somethings to accomodate her. has that film killed Rupert's film career cuz i don't think i've seen him in anything else.

Everything. It's an awful script, awful acting, awful EVERYTHING. The only people that liked this movie were Madge fams who wanted to see her hanging out with Rupert for two hours.

Oh, and can I just say this was John Schlesinger's last movie and he had certainly come a long way (down) from directing Midnight Cowboy, Logan's Run and Marathon Man. Working with Madonna must have killed him.

Madonna's acting skill are vasty overrated!

Not a lot. She got her hair dyed, I think. But really, Madonna pretty much always plays Madonna. Even Evita was pretty much Madonna. That's why she wanted to play her

remember when Madonna wanted to "bone" Antonio Banderas on the Almodovar party (Truth or Dare!)

Rupert was HOT as usual!!!

I kinda liked the movie. Love the house that she lived in.

No, really. I liked it. Not the best film I´ve ever seen, but I liked it.

last Madonna movie i saw. i decided to give up on her movie carear of that.

Madonna herself finds it hard to escape the overwhelming presence of Madonna, therefore making it impossible to sespend disbelief that she is someone else other than Madonna. That's why roles like Susan, Breathless, All the Way Mae, and Evita are better for her because they are similar to the public facade of Madonna everyone is familiar with.

Seeing Madonna act makes Prince seem like Denzel!

but his acting is 10 times better than Madonna ANY day! Who keeps giving her roles

I go back and 4th cuz there's been movies she was appaulingly bad in ("Body of Evidence" any1?) and then there's bad movies that she was decent in ("Dangerous Game", "Dick Tracy") and then there's great movies that she was great in ("A League of Their Own"? SUPERB!)

I've said it before and I'll say it again, her per4mance in "Evita" was nothing short of a revelation. She brought such a depth and humanity 2 Eva Peron that was never conveyed in the stage version. This 2 me is incredibly ironic bcuz Eva Peron is portrayed in the stage show as this shallow, fame-obsessed, opportunistic b*tch (all the things Madonna's detractors have said about her over the years), whereas in the film, Madonna showed Eva's flaws andattributes. In other words, she made Evita human.

Hated it. I actually left the theatre angry.

See, I think she's totally believable in her own videos and concerts. Whatever emotion she's trying to convey, she gets across wonderfully.

But it's her speaking voice. It just doesn't translate well to movies. She constantly sounds like she's reading from cue-cards. And I think that's why she's so stiff and wooden. There's just nothing natural and easy about the way she delivers a line.

And I think that's why something like Evita works. She doesn't have to talk!

Other movies like Desperately Seeking Susan and Truth or Dare work too, cuz it's just her.
