80s R&B classic of the day: "Don't Tell Me,Tell Her" by Odyssey (1980)

Don't Tell Me,Tell Her"
written by James-Linzer

Don't tell me,tell her
it's over,it's over
Don't tell me,tell her
it's over,it's over

We never said this love was forever more
but in my heart you came and I closed the door
and now I see that "Sorry, girl" look in your eyes
I know she's back in town again
don't let her back in our lives

Don't tell me,tell her
it's over,it's over (it's over)
Don't tell me,tell her (better tell her,baby)
it's over,it's over (better tell her now)
Don't tell me,tell her
it's over,ooh

Whenever you call, ain't I the one
who always takes the time to be with you,be with you
Whenever you fall (fall) ain't I the one
who's always been right there to pick you up
and turn your gray skies blue

Don't let go (don't let go of me baby)
don't you know (I'd be lost without you)
Turn around (turn around and come back here)
please don't say we're through

Don't tell me,tell her
it's over,it's over
Don't tell me,tell her
it's over,it's over

She doesn't really care if you live or die
She doesn't really care if you say goodbye
there'll never be another like you and me
Now that she's finally seen us (don't let her come between us)

Don't let go (don't let go,baby)
don't you know (you know,baby)
there's no reason for you to go
everything you need is here

music A cool, breezy midtempo groove from 1980.It didn't become a massive hit or anything but it was covered a year later by not one,but two, popular female artists: Dionne Warwick and Phyllis Hyman. It's one of those songs with a really infectious hook.Hear it once, you'll be singing it all day long.

Were they big back in the 70s? I haven`t heard much about them, in spite of all the brilliant music they made....

They had some success in the late 70s but never really became huge."Native New Yorker" was a massive disco hit in 1977.In 1982,they scored an R&B hit with "Inside Out",a song that sounds exactly like Slave's music from that period.

That`s a shame, cause they were GOOD!! "Native New Yorker" is one of THE best hits from the disco era...

Indeed! lol When folks say that disco was senseless and lightweight,I always use "Native New Yoker" as an example of a disco song with depth.Really good lyrics!
