Christmas Music

I'm trying to put together a mix of some good soulful, r&b-ish Christmas songs. So far all I can think of are:

-This Christmas by?? (what version should I get, I'm leaning toward Donny Hathaway)

-Let It Snow by Boyz II Men

-Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas by Luther Vandross

Please let me know other R and B Christmas songs that you enjoy. I'm also open to other suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Peace and humptiness forever.

Donna Summer "O Holy Night" (very soulful with help of choir....Donna belts on this one...not disco!)

Anita Baker "A Few Of My Favorite Things" (not a Christmas song but from her Xmas disc and a standout track that is very jazzy and nice).

Donny Hathaway's version of "This Christmas" is the only version that should be legally permissible. Every artist/act save the Harlem Boys Choir has botched it, if only because DH's was so good.

I lean less towards contemporary R&B and more towards old-school or jazz renditions. Try these on for size.

"What Child Is This?" -- Vanessa Williams

"Winter Wonderland" -- Shirley Horn

"Silent Night (Original Version)" -- The Temptations

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" -- Smokey Robinson and the Miracles

"What Christmas Means To Me" -- Stevie Wonder

"The Christmas Waltz" -- Nancy Wilson

"My Favorite Things" -- Diana Ross and the Supremes

"Let It Snow! . . ." -- The Temptations

"Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town" -- The Jackson 5

"Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" -- Lou Rawls

"Spirits Past" -- Gil Scott-Heron

"I Want To Come Home For Christmas" -- Marvin Gaye

Some dude did a song called "Another Lonely Christmas" with his house band, too.

OR, you could just spend 10-12 bucks and buy the best collection of Christmas songs out there.

Are any of you familiar with a Christian group called "Go Fish"? Their Christmas album is good.

That's a nice cover! Elliott's a big Donny fan and plays it safe by keeping it true to the original.
