I've seen the video! Hooray for Princey! I hope "3121" (the song) wins- best song of the year. I think Yeah Yeah Yeahs got hosed. Goldfrapp too, even though I'm rooting for Madonna. And nothing for the Strokes? Worse are the noms for "My Humps" and "Ring the Alarm". And it's quite funny that now that the political zeitgeist has turned against Bush (finally!), the Dixie Chicks get all these noms for such a shit song. well, good. 'nausea' is my fave song from 'the information'. the video you saw wasn't just from the DVD? it was a video-video? i'm a little amazed goldfrapp got nominated at all. i hope they win out over oldfrapp (madge).

vainady, I posted this here somewhere else, but I should've posted it here, so here it is anyway..... Well, when I was a kid back in the '80s the grammys and AMA's where the shit, but I was never satisfied with how many Prince got. Now that I'm older I realize it's the sell outs that get more awards. I loved the awards shows back in the day also, mainly because I enjoyed every opportunity there was to actually see the artists. Videos were around but there weren't a ton of R&B ones and the only place to see R&B artists was on "Soul Train" or the awards shows. Also, the pop/rock was much better in those days also so those groups were a treat to see also. I know what you mean about the sellouts getting the awards though. Even back then, the main ones that got the awards, even in the R&B categories, were the R&B artists that the pop world was knowledgeable of. You never saw folks like The Barkays, Cameo, or Lakeside getting awards....especially a Grammy. So, I see it as a blessing that Prince doesn't have tons of Grammys because they would be less meaningful.
That's true. And also, when people start getting a lot of awards, it changes them and they start making weaker music to continue that type of success. Just look what it did to Lionel Richie. Let's be real, music has gone to shit and they're handing out grammys, etc., to any talentless act with good producers who know what's "cool" nowadays.
Creativity and musicianship is GONE, but only a handful of artists remember this and try to be more original. Very true! Artists like India Arie, Maxwell, Brian McKnight, Alicia Keys, etc. have kept true soul lovers like us interested.
Those aren't my taste at all (I like something much harder), but I fully understand and agree with you. There just needs to be room for harder, uptempo, funky groups like there used to be....but of course, radio keeps those groups out and does not give them airplay when they come out with something new. I TOTALLY understand how you feel about this man...
"Remember to respect the Music" Keep the soul ya'll! PEACE Thank you. Andy is a four letter word.

Mary J Blige, James Blunt, Chris Brown, Josh Groban, Amy Lee from Evanescence, Ludacris, Corinne Bailey Rae, Rascal Flatts, Justin Timberlake, and KT Tunstall are scheduled to announce the nominations....which means all of them are getting at least one. I have a question for you VC & all org members that have (or will) waste their time with the Grammies (the king of SCREWING people out of awards): In the new tradition that started with Kanye West & Faith Hill, who was acting a damn fool on THIS award show?!!!?
