Great Artists who murder covers

My choice is deffinatly Aretha Franklin's version of 'A house is not a home' from last years Luther Vandross tribute album. My god, is that possibly the worst cover of all time? It's absolutly horrendous.

Sidestepping the landmine of uttering Madonna's name in a thread devoted to "great artists", she's butchered her fair share of covers. Her "Imagine" and "American Pie" covers definitely left a lot to be desired. I was so mortified when the rumors were circulating that she was gonna do "Ziggy Stardust". Thankfully, I haven't heard much of that lately.

her tongue should have been cut out for doing that to American Pie.

prince can't do a decent cover to save his life, imo. his version of 'betcha by golly' was passable at best. as was his 'a case of you' - i wish he would put more thought into them.

Okay we are clearly getting off the topic of "great" artists and just bitching about shitty covers. This is good.

Heart's version of "Unchained Melody" had potential, sadly it didn't come out so great.

Mariah Carey is one of the greatest singers of this generation, but she isn't very good at re-making songs. Her remake of "I Still Believe" isn't nearly as soulful and heartfelt as the original.Likewise,I hated her remake of "Endless Love" with Luther Vandross. And let's not even mention what she did with Prince's "The Beautiful Ones" disbelief

He's pretty fantastic at handling them live though.

She did an okay job with "Do you know where you`re going too", although i prefer the original version.

And i have to say, i liked her cover of "Against all odds", it makes you forget all about the Phil Collins version...

But you`re right about the other songs, "The beautiful ones" was horrible!

To me,she's not a good "remake" artist.Neither is Mary J. Blige boxed

I`m not so familiar with Mary J. Blige`s music. I know she recorded "A natural woman", but i can`t say i`m crazy about that one...
The same goes for the duet with George Michael, "As". Those covers aren`t bad, only very forgettable lol

The original Endless Love was shit, too. That song is one of the sappiest piece of shit ever to escape Motown.
