thanks. I thought she did a great job with this on Oprah last week. This reminds me of something Whitney would do back in the day...well, maybe not lyrically but melody-wise.

Now that's more like it thumbs up!

This song absolutely kills the crappy stuff she does on her own albums, especially that new single "Irreplaceable".The video is pretty good too.I might have to go out and see this movie.

oh, I don't think she's done with B-Day yet."Listen" is on the lead single off the "Dreamgirls" soundtrack, but it's also included on "B-Day." Maybe her company will release this to Adult Comtemp. or something. I'm pretty sure she'll release another single off "B-Day" I hope it is "Freakum Dress or "Greenlight". I like "Get Me Bodied" but I know they won't release that one to radio. BDay is doing pretty well in sales, so I'd be suprised if they didn't release at least one more track.

I am disappointed to hear Jennifer Holiday is being critical of Jennifer Hudson's version of "I'm Telling You....." JHol basically said JHud straight jacked her version note for note and faulted the producers for using a bit of her (JHol's) version in the trailer. Oh, brother....

Still can't wait for the movie! here's a review of "Dreamgirls" I found interesting from Eonline.com's "Planet Gossip":

Forget how many days there are until Christmas. Everyone should be counting the days until Dreamgirls.

As regular readers of this column know, I have been looking forward to the movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical for what seems like forever. Well, it happened on Wednesday night. I saw Dreamgirls.

And it is brilliant. Director Bill Condon's creation is everything moviegoing should be.

Beyoncé is drop-dead gorgeous. Jamie Foxx is a confident badass. Eddie Murphy turns his comic chops into a career-infusing performance. And then there's Jennifer Hudson, who is phenomenal. She is, for lack of a better word, a dream.

Does Hudson steal the movie from Beyoncé? Not exactly. They have very different roles. Beyoncé's Deanna Jones is a quiet beauty. Hudson's Effie White is an opinionated loudmouth who is meant to have the powerhouse voice Ms. Hudson certainly has. Hudson nails the two songs she appears to have been destined to sing: "Changing" and "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going." But if there's any doubt Beyoncé can hold her own against Hudson, wait till you hear the former Destiny's Child lead singer's solo of "Listen." It's one of the new songs written just for the movie and will most likely be an Oscar contender.

Needless to say, this isn't the last time you'll be hearing from me about Dreamgirls. For now, mark your calendars. A limited release begins in New York, L.A. and San Francisco on Dec. 15, before it explodes onto screens everywhere on Dec. 25.

Boring, typical tacked on soundtrack song and yet another overdone vocal performance by BeYeasty. Sometimes I can like her, lately I'm tired of her. She looked to me like she was trying her hardest not to look upset when Oprah was lavishing praise on Jennifer Hudson. Then she performed that damn boring song. I'm still looking forward to this movie and still have high hopes for it; I just don't get into new songs added to film adaptations of song scores.

While I didn't notice any negative vibes from the cast members, it didn't seem like they hung out and really got to know each other. Jennifer seemed in awe of Beyonce and Jamie (and Oprah), Jamie seemed in awe of Eddie (and the memory of his kissing scene with Beyonce) etc. Anika seemed to be the only one who kinda got close to Eddie. And, Jamie seemed closest to Beyonce. Pretty good show, though....I forgot all about "Party All the Time" lol

Rolling Stone gave the movie good marks. From their review http://www.rollingstone.c...reamgirls:

All the actors respond full-throttle to the material. Foxx is magnetic as the bad guy, showing a grasp of the insecurities that drive the controlling Curtis. And Beyonce, looking and sounding gorgeous, gets as far inside Deena as the underwritten role allows. She helped co-write a new Krieger song, "Listen," that adds grit and touching gravity to Deena.
From this review and the other I posted, I get the impression that Beyonce's part is kinda small. The producers are marketing the movie like she's the star, which from a business point of view makes sense, I guess (seriouly, I never think of Sheryl Lee Ralph when I think of "Dreamgirls," I think of Jennifer Holliday). They want this movie to be like "Chicago" so they gotta use all the star power they can get to draw in people who aren't familiar with the musical. I'm just glad that apparently everyone did pretty well with their roles (especially Beyonce who usually sleepwalks through her roles).

And if Beyonce gets overshawed by Jennifer Hudson in the press, it might be a good thing for her. Hey, anything that humbles you...

well, to be honest, not a whole lot until recently. Now I've heard of "And I'm Telling You" and I always remember seeing Jennifer Holliday singing that. Her mouth was always gapped open so wide or something...she kinda scared me. Anyway, I never knew the actual story of why she sang that song or who she sang it to. I just remember hearing it was loosely based on the Supremes.

The lead single should have been a Jennifer Hudson track. But Beyonce always gets her way and, like Diana Ross, takes over any project she's involved with.

The price of those movies will be $25. Therefore, I wouldn't be seeing in early anyway, lol. Edit: The link doesn't seem to work, so I posted the article.

THE $25 MOVIE

By LOU LUMENICK Post Movie Critic

November 16, 2006 -- First, the $6 cup of coffee - now brace yourself for the $25 movie ticket.

That's the record sum that will be charged to see "Dreamgirls" for the first 10 days of its theatrical run, beginning on Dec. 15.

The highly anticipated film version of the 1981 Broadway musical about a singing group resembling the Supremes stars Beyoncé, Jamie Foxx and Eddie Murphy.

It will be showing exclusively at the Ziegfeld in Manhattan, as well as at single theaters in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The $25 ticket buys a reserved seat, a 50-page color souvenir program and a look at a lobby exhibition of costume and set designs.

Moviegoers will also have "the opportunity to purchase exclusive merchandise and the film's soundtrack in the lobby," according to the movie's Web site.

The film will be shown without commercials or coming-attraction trailers. There will be only one showing per evening, with an added matinee on weekends.

Paramount, the film's distributor, is reaching back into movie history to bring back the "road show" - or reserved-seat engagements at higher-than-usual prices.

The practice was standard for big-budget Hollywood pictures into the 1960s, with blockbusters like "The Ten Commandments," "Lawrence of Arabia" and "The Sound of Music" running six months or more at a single theater with higher prices.

The last official road show was "Man of La Mancha," another film based on a Broadway musical, in 1972.

"Dreamgirls" is being treated much like a live theatrical presentation - although $25 is a bargain compared with the $110 and up charged for orchestra tickets to Broadway musicals - to build buzz and the film's Oscar chances.

"We wanted to bring it to audiences in a special way, and we think this road show does the film justice," Jim Tharp, Paramount's president of distribution, told Variety.

There's one difference - road-show movies generally had an intermission. "Dreamgirls," which runs 125 minutes, will not. The last movie with an intermission was "Gandhi," in 1982.

Theater owners and studios have debated for years whether tickets to popular and expensive movies should carry a premium, as well as whether prices should be dropped after a movie is running for a few weeks.

Last year, the Ziegfeld, a 1,131-seat single-screen theater on West 54th Street that is often used for movie premieres, charged $12.50 - instead of the usual $10.75 - for its exclusive run of "The Producers," a Broadway hit that flopped on the big screen.

"Dreamgirls" will be showing at regular prices - even at the Ziegfeld - when it goes into wide national release on Christmas Day.

There's ONLY 2 clips of the whole Dreamgirls trio through-out the video.

Boy, talk about a shrewd move from Bey,,,I mean DEENA's camp lol

Needless to say, from the reviews I've heard about the movie's screening. It seems that the movie is a top-notch, while Beyonce's acting has been improved modestly, EVERYBODY agree that Ms.Hudson is the one who stole the show.

But the role I'm rooting for the most is Mr.Thunder AKA Eddie Murphy nod this is def a very different and unpredictable step for Eddie.

Truth be told, I think Beyonce is merely playing herself. Her career has mirrored Diana Ross' so much that this role was tailor-made for her.

I hear people say this all the time.

Take away Beyonce's powerful camp, and you'll see a very timid, calculated and very careful female entertainer.

Take away Diane's powerful camp, and you'll see an equally powerful, ferocious driven and a very spontaneous female entertainer.

The bigger difference though is, Diane came from the projects, she was a ROUGH diamond from the gutter,,,,unlike Beyonce who was from a known black middle class family str8 from the suburbs.

I think Sony and Matthew successfully and shrewdly built Miss Beyonce's image as a younger Diana Ross. But thats about it, an image.

I agree completely, and wasn't comparing their talent or personalities, merely their career trajectories. I don't think Beyonce has nearly enough life experience to be a real actress.

It'll be interesting to see how well this film does.Musicals are risky. You never know if it's gonna be a major success like 'Chicago' or an over-hyped flop like 'Rent' or 'Idlewild'.I heard that Warners were planning to do this film in the late 90s (with Lauryn Hill as the star) but they backed out of the project when another musical 'Why Do Fools Fall In Love' flopped. This time,I guess they're banking on Beyonce's popularity.

Why Do Fools Fall In Love was NOT a musical, it was a Frankie Lymon biopic. It was a drama.

They were planning it then. At the time, they were hoping for Kelly Price in the Effie role. Woulda been a good choice.

Beyoncé Denies Rumors of Jennifer Hudson Feud
MONDAY DECEMBER 04, 2006 01:00PM EST

By Amy Longsdorf and Stephen M. Silverman

Photo by: Amy Sussman / Getty; Kathy Hutchins

You can put those rumors of a feud on the set of Dreamgirls to rest. Beyoncé Knowles says that she and her costar Jennifer Hudson, of American Idol fame, didn't have bad blood while filming the movie.

"I knew that the character that I played wasn't the star," Knowles, 25, told reporters on Saturday about knowing full well that her Diana Ross-esque role of Deena Jones was less meaty than Hudson's part as Effie White – a part that is already getting Hudson Oscar buzz. "She wasn't the underdog. She didn't have the struggle and the pain and the dramatic scenes that Effie had, and I was fine with that."

Taking the role was about proving herself as an actress. "I'm already a star. I already have nine Grammys. Everyone knows I can sing," Knowles said. "I did this because I wanted people to know that I can act and I can play someone so different from myself."

So, what about the rumors of jealousy towards Hudson? "It's really unfortunate that everyone is saying I'm jealous of Jennifer. It hurts my heart because it's so clichéd...They're saying that I'm mad when I knew going into this that I was playing Deena," said Knowles. "Because I'm a star they just automatically assume that I'm not humble enough to sit down and take a back seat, which I am."

But the R&B star did admit that she would have liked to have sung Effie's song, "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," a showstopper that, in large part, helped get Jennifer Holliday a Tony Award for best actress for the original 1981 Broadway version of Dreamgirls.

"I mean," said Knowles, "I wish I could've gained 20 pounds and played Effie."

Asked if she'd really have packed on the weight for the part, Knowles said, "Yes. I absolutely would have, but Bill (Condon, the movie's writer-director) didn't even believe that I could be Deena. So imagine if I would've said, 'Bill, I want to be Effie.' "

And Knowles has high praise for Hudson's portrayal of Effie. "Jennifer Hudson had such a pressure, first of all, never being in a film and never have done an album and still having to live up to those expectations," said Knowles. "She did incredible."
