Barry White Luther Vandross Peabo Bryson or Teddy Pendergrass

Whose velvet voice do you think is better or do you prefer and why?
For me it's a toss up between Teddy, Barry and Luther. Peabo has a fantastic voice, But his material was not as good as the other three. I remember when he tried to go Pop back in the day with a song called "Take No Prisoners" It was weak! But my favorite singer (Marvin Gaye) didn't make the list.

But people, I didn't include Marvin Gaye or any other great artists than those four because I just wanted you to chose between those four. Didn't want to make the list too long. They've all got that velvet voice which I wouldn't call for example Marvin's voice. I'm aware of the fact that Peabo stands out a little wink. Not saying that these are the four best singers we've had or making any statement like that. I just had a simple question, and that was wich one of the four I mentioned in my initial post do you prefer? So if you read carefully I didn't make any statement...

Dag, someone put Donny's pic up and ENDED this. razz Donny's music was so packed with emotion a lot of it very melancholoy, knowing how he took his life probably affects how i process him too. it's kinda saddening. i wish we had the anti-depressants we have when he was here.

-but don't hate on Peabo, he had range and is still very underrated.
luther - probably the most commercially successful; great vocal arranger
teddy - raw energy, most "masculine" voice (doesn't jaheim sound like teddy?!) most sex appeal with the ladies in his heydey
barry - best pure vocal instrument; best musical arrangements

Co-sign on Donny Hathaway and Al Green.

I will throw Mr. Bobby Womack in there as well. Dude's voice is so slept on it's not even funny.

El Debarge, Howard Hewitt and Johnny Gill are all great vocalists IMO.

Nice clips. Especially Luther.
Prefer this Peabo, though...the lower register and when he's not so clean and Disney. Love Patti's reaction.

Thanks, that was a great, strong performance! Wasn't easy to find some good clips with Peabo on youtube, so thanks for adding that one, anon. Peabo may not be the best but he sure can sing music (but all of them were superb so I would react just like Patti did bawl).

lol You could do a thread on "whos best, Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Guy, Robert Johnson or Stevie Ray Vaughn," and someone would inevitably pick Steve Vai.

You're right, there's not much out there. Peabo really should do a Duets CD with grittier singers. There's still time.

Well, with Peabo I think those "If Ever You're In My Arms Again" checks were bigger that the "Crosswinds" and "I'm So Into You" checks.

But s*** pay your taxes. If you're going to sell out then do it and be comfortable. Not foolish. Uncle Sam is the ultimate pimp. Ain't no running, no hiding. You can't even die.
