crappy R&B songs from the 80s---let's compile a list

Let's compile a list of the worst R&B songs of the 80s (we'll do pop later)....those horrible songs that had you shaking your head in disbelief...

***"Moving Violation" by Skyy (1982)---in 1981,Skyy could do no wrong. They were kicking ass with the hits "Call Me","Let's Celebrate" and "When You Touch Me".But what the hell happened in 1982 with the follow-up? "Moving Violation" is an extremely stupid song, and worst of all,it's not even funky! A synth-heavy,New Wave-styled workout with incredibly dumb lyrics and a courtroom segment that is beyong absurd.

***"Do It To Me Good Tonight" by Michael Henderson (1986)---Yes,this is the same Michael Henderson who sang the lovely "You Are My Starship" in 1976....the same Michael Henderson who delivered a true funk classic in 1980 with "Wide Receiver".Apparently,by the mid-80s he had nothing else to give because this song is terrible....a vapid,light-pop flop single that is best forgotten.

***"Girls Are More Fun" by Ray Parker Jr.(1985)---Ray is a talented guy and I like many of his earlier recordings. But after he disbanded Raydio and went solo, his music became weaker and weaker. This song is him at his absolute worst.I guess the popular "Ghostbusters" hit convinced him that synth-heavy pop is the way to go,but this isn't even good pop.Not surprisingly, this song flopped, deservedly so.

***"Freakshow On The Dancefloor" by the Bar Kays(1984)---I love the Bar Kays, but let's be honest.Too many of their songs sound just like other artists' songs! This song is a blatant rip-off of Midnight Star's superior "No Parking On The Dancefloor".Oddly enough,I think most of their other "copycat" singles are pretty good, but this is dreadful.

any more? lol

***"It Isn't,It Wasn't,It Ain't Ever Gonna Be" by Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston (1989)---it's never any fun to criticize the Queen of Soul, but this song is beneath her.Whose idea was this? Two amazing voices, one stupid song.

***"My Girly" by Ready For The World (1988)---On this tune, they tried to jump on the New Jack Swing bandwagon.I liked them better when they ripping off Prince and the Minneapolis Sound, lol.

***"Love Of A Lifetime" by Chaka Khan (1986)---over the weekend, there was a Chaka Khan marathon on one of those VH-1 music channels. They showed the video for this horrible song disbelief One of her career low points, this is an over-synthesized mess of a song.A voice like Chaka's deserves better.

Disteny & I Feel For You is the reason why she rebelled and made C.K..

WB didn't stop @ giving her a slap on the face when they made that "Remix" album behind her back and released it.

I remember when she showed up @ Donnie Simpson's "BET Soul Video Gold" and @ some point he aired the video for "Ain't Nobody Remix" from that album.

She was putting her hand on her forehead, shaking her head in disgust and was like "Oh for the love of god, not this s*beep* again!" lol they cut the video right off @ the middle.

She then turned to Donnie and said "Don't even go there, Donnie. If its up to me I'd go to the control room and tear that video apart". His eyes wear tearing up from laughing.

I LIKED MY GIRLY!!!!! lol lol
And, it's funny U say that u liked them when they were "ripping off" the MPLS sound. That may be true, BUT: Don't it seem funny that EVERYBODY in MPLS went "New Jack" after THEM????? AS Arsenio used 2 say, "Things that make you go...HMMMMM!!!"

First of all, anything, and I do mean ANYTHING by Shitney Ass Houston.

Also, anything by Anita Baker, Freddie Jackson, Babyface (solo), Mikki Howard, and any of the other boring ass adult contemporary type R&B balladeers I may have missed from 1985-1989.

These are also some individual bullshit songs I can think of for right now....

Superwoman - Karyn White
Just Got Paid - Johnny Kemp
I Wanna Be Rich - Calloway
Casanova - Levert
Don't Worry, Be Happy - Bobby McFarren
Don't Rock The Boat - Midnight Star
Ghostbusters - Ray Parker, Jr.
I Just Can't Stop Loving You - Michael Jackson
Headlines - Midnight Star
Who's Zoomin' Who - Aretha Franklin
K-I-S-S-I-N-G - Seidda Garrett ?

There are tons of them from 1985 to 1989. I just can't think of them right now because I have blocked a lot of that dull era out of mind for years. It was the beginning of the end.

That one's OK. I was a little disappointed with it when it first came out but I can deal with it.

I love that one! I never really got disappointed with anything by The Barkays until "Struck By You" in 1989.
