2 Recent Albums That Have Grown on Me

Lindsey Buckingham - Under the Skin
Inching into my top 3 of the year. Just so gorgeous and weird.

B Day
I'm caving. "Ring the Alarm" is borderline experimental. And the ballads are surprisingly soulful.

I'd say Marc Cary's Focus is growing on me fast.

Brand New Heavies- Get Used To It. It kinda felt too bland at first. I listened to it a couple times then put it away. But now I'm enjoying it in a "background music while I'm on the phone" type of way. I love N'Dea's voice and they sound a bit looser on this one.

I have to check that out. I loved the first album, but haven't really heard anything since.

Its just so strange you have to listen to it again and again.

I agree, not a conventional approach at all.

In 1987, Public Enemy started their concerts with the same airhorn sound to get people uncomfortable.

I like the Lindsey Buckingham album, but is it me, or does he just go out of his way to be weird just for the sake of being weird? I've always thought Lindsey was a bit of a showoff, like "lookie how abstract and unusual I can be." Especially during the Tusk era.

Of course, I love all that material, but still.... cool

I don't like the Beyonce CD though. My partner plays it all the time, and to me it's just shrieking. But i'm not a big fan to begin with, soo.... probably not the best judge of it.

Whoever produced "Alarm" definitely loves some Terminator X. smile

I know what you mean about Lindsey, but that's what I actually like about this new album--the melodies and words are pretty straightforward. Of course, his production is as strange as usual.

This is what I thought when I heard "Freakum Dress." I swear that sounds like a PE beat. Rich Harrison did that one I think...but I assumed it was Swizz Beats 'cause it has a harder edge. "Greenlight" sounds like Rich Harrison, but it's the Neptunes. lol No one really sounds like themselves on this CD.

Gnarls Barkley's cd is slowly growing on me even though I've had it since the summer and I wasn't really feeling it because of all the hype around them...

I had know idea that emoticon meant "who farted?"...that's funny
but you gotta admit, it was a strange, gutsy choice for a single

Right - because it was so bad. Deja Vu was not a mess, but it wasn't terribly hot, either. But RTA is a tuneless mess ain't no way around that. Where's the melody?

Disagree. There is a melody, but it's subtle. For me, the song gets by on its sound, crazy drums, and even just the unhinged desperation in her singing. It sounds pissed off and unbalanced, which is kind of a nice surprise coming from such middle-of-the-roader.

Actually I was saying that the pic has been around for a while now... The one where she's sipping out of the jar is much funnier.
