Rediscovering songs you totally got sick of...

listening to a demo version of Bowie's "changes" right now, and falling in love with it all over again. my god, how many times have i heard this song? i must have burnt out on it at least a dozen times in my life, yet i keep rediscovering it and it keeps sounding fresh again every few years.

i wonder what it takes for a song to re-activate after burning out on it utterly and completely? what have you been reunited with recently?

Whats up w/ the org, today?

Anyway..

The Clash - London Calling

I took for granted how brilliant this song is. Same with a lot of stuff from my teenage years. It seems that the older I get the more I appreciate the artistry of a lot of those tunes. Its like I've finally have lived enough to "get it".

CinisterCee

This week it was Fatboy Slim "Rockafeller Skank".

I was SO tired of hearing this song in the late 90s. But now since I have a greater appreciation of Lord Finesse (whose voice is sampled on the track) and also programming beats... I'm quite amazed by what Norman cooked up on what sounds like have been a trillion different racks of samplers/sequencers. I don't know how he did all of that stuff in one song!

I've never been 'sick' of this song, so to speak, but I really have been playing the H out of Rock The Casbah (1982) by The Clash.

I have so much music on my iPod, that sometimes songs just get lost if I don't play them after a while. I'm constantly listening to new music, so my re-obsession with this song came randomly when I had my player on shuffle mode. Ever since then, I've been playing it at least twice or more a day. Even went so far as to rip a version of the song at 320 kbps just to hear the different layers and pick up sounds hidden in the background. It's fantastic at full volume.

Ive done this with alot of Stones songs. Someone said to me once they "didn't like Brown Sugar." I had to clarify, wait a minute, of course you like "Brown Sugar" youre just sick of it. "Brown Sugar" and most of the classic Stones songs are unbelievable when you listen to them with virgin ears but its so hard to do that.

"Miss You" popped up on my shuffle play this week, and I was astounded at how freakin' HIP that song STILL is. I love that song.

I love 80's euro-trash. It's one of the few German artists I can stomach, though. Well, just this song, to be exact. And some Enigma songs.
And Falco.
And Nina Hagen's Nina Hagen Band album.

I stumbled across an old mixtape this weekend with Midnight Oil's "Put Down That Weapon". I'd forgotten how good this tune is. I must've played it 5x's back-to-back. Now I think i'm gonna check out some of their catalogue.
