Eagles 'I Can't Tell You Why'

Never been a huge Eagles fan but I have to say that this is one lovely ballad by the group but for me the very best part of the song is the beautiful guitar solo by Glen Frey. Its SO INCREDIBLE sounding in a very simple way. One of my very favorite closing guitar solos ever in a song.

Anyone else a fan of this song?

Timothy B. Schmidt did his thing on this song. I love everything from the background vocals to the geetar solo to the overall mood of this song. The Eagles were somethin' else back in the day...Bringing in Joe Walsh was a stroke of genius, imo.

What do you call "The Best Of My Love", "One Of These Nights"? I know there are more because their appeal was as a white-bread hony-tonk r&b/country band.

I don't doubt Eagles got black airplay (though I think it was OOTN that crossed over), but I'm wondering if folks might have heard this on a soul station, instead.

Late 80s KJLH played it a bunch during their "Quiet Storm" segments and it sounded great cruising Harbor Fwy Southbound from Pasadena thru Downtown; right when you hit the moonlight glare off the Bonaventure.

I've only recently warmed up to The Eagles (though I will likely never be able to tolerate Hotel California), but this has always been a favorite of mine. It's a beautiful composition. Along with One of These Nights, it's one of my Eagles favorites.

The r&b group Brownstone also did a cover of this song back in the 90s.

Have you heard the version of "I Can't Tell you Why" by Brownstone? They do a pretty good job with it, especially the outro. Nice R&B jam, with some nice singing at the end.

Another cool thing about "I Cant Tell you Why" is that the intro and basically the chorus are the same chords as Prince's "Father's Song"

Bm7 then A with B in the bass. I've messed around combining the melody of both songs, ("Father's Song" is the second part of "Computer Blue") I wonder if Prince thought of that before..

Another similar Glenn Frey tune is "The One You Love" that song sounds like Memphis soul..

Those are my 3 favourite Eagles songs, but I'd never thought of them as Soul before. Cool. I don't understand some of the vitirol for the Eagles, they did heaps of great and moving songs. Desparado, Doolin' Dalton, Hotel, New Kid In Town... so many of their ballads are great. Their fast songs, whilst melodic and well put together just don't have enough 'guts' for me to really feel them.

Oh for you crew who don't like Hotel, it must just be cuz it's overplayed. That is one fucking haunting song, if you ever liked it you'll carry part of it around for ever.

I wrote a thread on this VERY thread shortly after I joined this site. It wasn't shown hardly any love. I figured no one on here dug the track. I LOVE this song. It's also not shown any love on the FM rock stations that plays the shit out of all the other Eagle tracks. I say cuz the song is heavy on the soul influence.

I say it's because the instrumentaion pre-Joe walsh is very boring and "by-the-book". I haven't seen them in any recent runs since Walsh joined up, but the best parts of their DVD (as far as "axe-molesting" goes) are the Walsh numbers: "Funk #49" and 'Rocky Mountain Way".

The layered harmonies are very r&b. Imagine them in tuxes doing steps instead of "hippied-out" in jeans and tees and you'll float....float on.

I love the Eagles....boxed

They are the closest thing to country that I'll listen to... lol
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I was looking at the cd booklet for the Eagles 2 cd greatest hits, and it does say that it was Glenn Frey that played the solo.
