Yeah, I totally agree on that song. And also any song by culture club (a boy who is confused what sex he is and overdoes the make up)

Some people would say that about Prince, ya know...
I mean, like, where is the sun?

Anything by Samantha Fox !! biggrin

Baby don't let me be misunderstood
We're in love so bad
But it feels SO GOOD!
Then along came you now I know it's true

NAUGHTY GIRLS NEED LOVE TOO!!

lol How can you not love that song?

I always thought she was singing "Temporary love's so bad,but it feels so good" wink

Remember the other lines in that song?

"Used to be so good but so bad
Sex was something I just had
Used to always know what to do
Now,you got me confused"

Those were fitting lyrics for an ex-porno star smile

"Walking on Sunshine" Katrina and The Waves ARGHHH!!! I might have had a crack moment and liked it when it first came out, but now everytime it happens to come on the radio, I change it immediately. It's like nails on the chalkboard.
"Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

my vote: 'Another Day In Paradise' by Phil Collins

ultra cheese late 80's production - how awful

and 'we built this city on rock & roll' should go down in the Baby Boomer hall of shame (larger than the Smithsonian, I'm sure)

Other 80s songs that really suck...

***"Turning Japanese" The Vapors (1980)---No comment smile

i never knew what that song wuz actually about till a couple years ago...lol

***"Rhythm Of The Night" DeBarge(1985)---Don't get me wrong,I love DeBarge. But this insipid,lite-reggae,Top 40 nonsense song is truly the worst thing they ever did! This is one group that should have stuck to ballads!!

not only that, the video wuz corny as hell. evillol

***"Dancing On The Ceiling" Lionel Ritchie (1986)---I love Lionel but come on! This song is a ludicrous, meaningless piece of bullcrap that he would have NEVER recorded in his funky Commodores days.

true...but i remember bein 5 years old & lovin this song/video. biggrin

***"Rumors" Timex Social Club (1986)---How the hell are you gonna do a song about rumors being spread about you when YOU'RE NOT EVEN FAMOUS YET? Wrong choice for a debut single!

lol

***"Right Here Waiting" Richard Marx (1989)---For some inexplicable reason, our very own Sheila E. did a remake of this snoozefest song on her last CD!! Wtf??

omg

shame on sheila!!! no no no!

Speaking of Sheila,I haven't even bought her last CD with "Right Here Waiting" on it.Am I missing something? I really love Sheila but her previous CD 'Rites Of Passage' was a snoozefest, imo.

rhythm of the night...ever since i saw moulin rouge, my opinion of that one has changed drastically. i'm actually jonesing to hear the original by debarge. good song! no, the absolute worst thing to come around in the 80s has to be "somebody's watching me" by rockwell. the most memorable thing about it was the hook sung by MJ.
Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

'We are the world' - I can't stand this song. I know its for a good cause but I think it completely sucks, and I dont blame Prince for not being involved in that mess.

Susudio by Phil Collins is another one that sucked
and that Cindy Lauper song 'you bop, he bop...' wtf?

Funny, but some of the songs you all are listing as the worst songs are songs that I love -- lol!! But we all have different tastes in music.

Some more 80's song that I think are the worst:

"Mr. Roboto" by Styx - This song is totally annoying. What makes it even worse are the backing vocals ("Secret, secret, I got a secret"). What really is laughable is at the end of the song is when Dennis DeYoung or whoever is the lead singer in that song shouts out: "I'M KILROY!" ROFLMOA!! Yeah, right, whatever. lol

"Celebration" by Kool and the Gang - When this song came out it was way overplayed by the radio stations everywhere. Even worse was going to my cousin's wedding and having it played at the reception. barf

"Gloria" by Laura Branigan - Another song that was totally overplayed until I got utterly sick of it. lol

"Walk Like an Egyptian" by the Bangles - I know that the Bangles worked with Prince a little at one time during the 80's, but I never cared for this song. The video is even worse with those weird costumes and that silly dance. rolleyes

I'm sure there are more songs that I'm forgetting that I will need to add to the list.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

This is kinda tough for me because the 80's is my favorite music decade. But, I will have to go with "I'm turning Japanese". Terrible.

I would also like to add something to this thread. A lot of people talk about how terrible and cheesy some of the music of the 80's was. But, what must be realized is that was a totally different time and music was "fun" back then (which is why a song about turning Japanese could get on the radio). Music, especially rap, at the time was about having fun. Music today doesn't have that fun vibe to it. Everyone today just seem to be pissed off. I once heard a guy decsribe the music of the 90's at the time as, "My life is terrible, your life is terrible, now let's get together and sing about how terrible our lives are". A lot of the music of the 80's may be cheesy, but at least most of it was original and not sampled and remade. I'll take cheesy over pissed off any day.

Oh yeah, and I thought "She drives me Crazy" by the Fine Young Cannibles was terrible also. There was nothing more scarring in my life than when I heard that song performed live on the Grammys. I asked for forgiveness for whatever I had done to deserve that.
I am convinced Beyonce's career would not be where it is, if she had dark skin.

The Wham! song "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" is one of those bubblegum pop songs that stay in your head all day long...lol...it's the type of song that you DON'T WANNA LIKE,but you can't get the melody outta your head.

"Dancing On The Ceiling" is probably the worst Lionel Ritchie song ever.Truly dreadful!

"As We Lay" by Shirley Murdock is an overrated song, imo.I prefer her follow-up single "Go On Without You".
