BlaqueKnight said: Well, its this type of song along with trash like "Soldier" that really weaken an artist in my opinion. The "cold kiss off" sends such a negative message. Its the equivalent of "bitch songs" that rappers make. EnVogue had songs about busting men out and so on but did it with class. Beyonce & DC also write with the need to tear others down in order to bring themselves up. She's probably kicking out that "soldier" she wanted in "Irreplaceable". That crap sends a bad message regardless of how its candy-coated. I don't expect much from that airhead, though. She's not that deep. Different strokes....I like the song and don't find it offensive at all...especially contrasted to "Ring the Alarm" with its "I can't let you go, never 'gon let you go..." theme. If he aint right, by all means, let him go...you'll find another. But, overall, it aint that serious to me. I like the song but I am getting a lil tired of hearing that "to the left" phrase.

More man-bashing and even though she's complaining about him, she obviously, from her lyrics didn't care enough about him in the first place to deem him "irreplaceable" so it sounds like she is being irresponsible by dating someone she doesn't really give a damn about.
This always happens with her. She runs out of ideas and then resorts to childish banter like some of the songs she wrote when she was in Destiny's Child. I call it the TLC Syndrome. I have little respect for people who promote this kind of division. Its that "typical bitchy black woman" stereotype. This song would have been better if performed by Sunshine Anderson. At this point in Bey's career, she needs to be writing more adult material rather than childish man-bashing. I know she's got writers but where are the good ones? The lyrics are garbage. The idea of the song is destructive since it promotes that boys vs. girls mentality and we need a lot less of that these days. At least with songs like "Me Myself & I" she had focus. this one is trash. She's always trying to write about pain, yet she's had a cushioned life. I agree, the song sucks.I liked "Deja Vu" because it was fast and exciting,a rarity in today's R&B scene. But this new song sucks ass.

Thats how shes expressing herself, in a sort of female empowerment anthem for women who should be taking control of their destiny and realizing that the love of a man who thinks he's the "end all, be all" isnt worth the headache, especially when she is the sole financial contributer to the relationship. I think the song is rather cleverly crafted, both lyrically and stylistically. I agree with Voices Carry. If she's so damn pissed, why would she want "another you in a minute"? And what kind of catch is she if "he'll be here in a minute"? Bitch had his replacement already lined up. No respect! She doesn't say that she wants another man in a minute...what she says is, "I can get another man, in a minute. There is a difference. What she is trying to tell this guy is, "if you cannot appreciate me and treat me with respect, there are others out there who will. It is no different from how some of us guys outthere feel. The song is about not putting up with that person's shit, just because you are in a relationship. There are too many people out there that have been through the same thing that she is singing about in the song and they stay...Tell me, how many of you all would stay in a messed up relationship? Finally, how is it "manbashing"? She did not say that all men are dogs BlaqueKnight;if you listen to the song again, he was the one who was acting up. He was the one that gave the other shorty a ride in the car that "B" brought for HIM.I guess you are of the opinion that giving another girl a ride in the car that ur girl got you, is okay and needs no explaination,Blaque. Like I said above, she is simply saying that she is not gonna put up with it. She did care about him,(until he screwed up), but she cares more about herself. This is why she is getting rid of him. Like I said, I'm not feeling it. The whole tone of the song is brash and immature sounding. She dealt with the same issue better on "Me Myself and I" And Shortrini, don't make assumptions about what I deem "okay."
What I do think is that its her lack of real life experience that keeps her writing about the same things over and over. most of her music is my this or my that; very self centered.

Blaque, I am not making an assumption. U called what she sang about "Male bashing ", and I was showing how it was not. By u calling what she is singing about "Male Bashing", kinda tells me that the brother's behavior is to you, acceptable. That's all. The tone of the song is I am not standing for it...get out...There is nothing childish about that. Also, she is writing it from her point of view in the hopes that someone can relate. BTW, when it comes right down to it, we all in the end are only looking out for ourselves, hence her "this or that", attitude. Dude, I was raising some serious hell when they dropped "No Scrubs". Not that I fit the description at all. It was because it was 3 broke, non-singing, no talented, novelty chicks, one of which was a drunk, confused, physically violent arsonist (God rest her soul) having the audacity to diss anyone in the first place...and they had a lot of other no count, lame, phony females humming right along. But people like what they like. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Okay ST, while it may not technically be manbashing, its most definately NOT a positive song and there's too much of this mess in R&B and its deliberate. All the male R&B seems to be about either chasing "p" or apologizing for chasing "p" and I for one am sick of the messages these songs are sending. They create tones of disrespect in the psyche of people and though the song may be "emotionally" satisfying to you, its really not a positive way to deal with a situation. In my opinion, it IS immature. The line "I can have another you in a minute, matter of fact he'll be here in a minute" can be taken two ways: either as a vulnerable defense mechanism or exactly as it is. Since this song does not hint of vulnerability, it makes more sense that MOST would interpet it as the latter. The whole song is weak in my opinion as I said. Defend it all day long if you want but I think it sucks and is part of the problem in R&B. The stereotype R&B song - the "bitchy black chick" and the "cheating black "dog". When was the last time you heard an R&B song about affairs of the world or unifying the community? Black love NOT sex?
Stevie Wonder's "So Whats The Fuss"? Chart music is bullshit. Beyonce, though I really like her voice and stage presence, is part of the problem. Adisa said: But people like what they like. That's the truth. [Edited 11/29/06 9:33am]

Stevie Wonder's "Shame On You"? Chart music is bullshit. Beyonce, though I really like her voice and stage presence, is part of the problem. Blaque, I agree that there is too much bashing going on back and forth in today's R&B, that chart music is B&S, but you have to place the blame on the A&R execs who think they know what sells. They really don't have a clue. What got me about Beyonce's song was that it had a new sound, coming from an R&B artist. It has that catchy guitar riff and that "to the left",candence. These are things that make a song memorable. It's almost southern sounding in tone. To me this is what's missing in R&B music. You mentioned Stevie, now I liked his 70's stuff, but everything since then has just sounded like crap to me. To me, his best years are behind him, but that's another thread. Music is designed to make u feel something and Beyonce's song certainly does that. You know I've been posting on here for years and I've posted many many many posts on the business side of music to the point that I don't do it anymore because I'm tired of the topic. Believe me, I know extremely well what goes on. It actually has little to do with A&R since A&R is almost non-existent these days. It does have everything to do with executive decisions as to what singles are released and I'm telling you, its deliberate. The "they have no clue" is their own default excuse but they know exactly what they are doing. They follow a formula. As toBeyonce's song, I understand that you like it but its not new, its not particularly a "fresh" sound and subjectwise, its been done to death. I'd rather see "Freakum Dress" as a single than "Irreplaceable" but thats not how the formula goes. Go read the lyrics to "So What The Fuss" and then find a song on Beyonce's record that even comes close. You won't. She's not that deep. Neither are her ghostwriters. Neither is her target audience, for that matter. This mindlessness on the charts is for a reason. $$$$$

Cool. No biggie. I like crap sometimes, too. ("Ballin" ) As for Stevie, I think he's just older and his approach is much more subtle. The vocal melodies on "What The Fuss" are very impressive to me in that the rhythmic meters on the verses are crazy! You can't anticipate where its going to go when you first hear it. Also, look at the lyrical structure. The first lines of the verse deal with "him", the second "you", the third "them" and the forth "us". He does this on all three verses. Each part deals with things within the scope of the views with each last two lines being worldly and political. Brilliant consistancy. Subtle brilliance that you have to look for to notice. I did. I don't think Beyonce is capable of this kind of writing. She's a bobblehead. She can sing her ass off, though and I like her as a performer.

Haha same here. Her lyrics usually focus on one emotion. Even this as a break-up song, yes, deals only with a very cold "take off you hoser" attitude.

How many times do people say things like "they don't care" or "I hate them" when that's not really how they feel? HOWEVER, I do not believe that that was the intent of the lyrics and they are actually just poorly written. But who cares? [Edited 11/29/06 14:22pm]
