80% of Prince music from the 80's was highly crappy.

You can play every instrument, but you can only make great music 20% of the time

I can't name one bad `80s Prince penned or produced song, as a solo act, for others, released or unreleased.

Love Secret Lovers! lol Not their best but I love the drama of it all. Was Teena Marie's Portuguese Love in the 80s? That shit's awful. Yes, I said awful. I know she's well loved here. lol

Controversy was the first ever mixbag for Prince. I can't hate on you on that opinion.

I think half of The Black Album was a mistake myself!

I Just Can't Stop Loving You is a pretty weak Michael song. Kind of forced.

Man In The Mirror is some of the most forced crap he ever made.

Are you kidding??? Heal The World, Earth Song, & Childhood are FAR worse than that (and anything else that Michael Jackson releases that sounds too much like We Are The World pt. 5, 6, 7, etc.)!

***"Girls Are More Fun" by Ray Parker Jr.(1985)---Ray is a talented guy and I like many of his earlier recordings. But after he disbanded Raydio and went solo, his music became weaker and weaker. This song is him at his absolute worst.I guess the popular "Ghostbusters" hit convinced him that synth-heavy pop is the way to go,but this isn't even good pop.Not surprisingly, this song flopped, deservedly so.

any more? lol

Ghostbuster -- Ray Parker Jr.

THIS song ruined the career of Ray Parker Jr.

Yeah, he made some shit, but Man In The Mirror I feel is the SCHMALTZ PROTOTYPE he uses over and over again. And regardless of the other songs' existence, MITM is still some of the most forced crap he ever made.

Let me second the love for "Loverboy"! lol I loved me some Billy Ocean back in the day...I like his voice. I love "Portuguese Love" by Teena Marie, too.

I nominate the one and only Phil Collins and Su-su-sudio! Oh-ohhh! The song always sounded like a broke and homely version of 1999 to me, something about the keyboards. (And then he came out with that "I Wish It Would Rain" song that reminded me of "Purple Rain"...but I think this one came out in the early 90s).

I have so many I could nominate but they are no-brainers. A "Good 80s Songs" thread might be more challenging lol

Billy Ocean needs to get beat down for "Get Into My Car" What was he thinking? And I think this song was made in the 80's. Michael Jackson and Eddie Murphy's song "Whazzup Wit U" It makes you want to get even.

Ya know, I just looked at the title of this thread again...I guess Phil Collins doesn't really qualify as R&B, huh? lol Opps. (well, hey gave me an excuse to release my disdain for Phil Collins at least)

Let me nominate another one then....how about "Keep It Confidential" by Nona Hendryx. Now I've always liked Nona, but not that song. Could not stand it. And anything by Expose...not sure if they'd be considered R&B but they seemed to get a lot of play on BET back in the day.
