eric claptons playing after cream what do you think of eric claptons playing after cream.
i think it become too generic. when he was in cream he had passion, edge he was furios and scared of jimi hendrix. but i must admit eric clapton in the last few year drasticly improved. he plays great again. and bonus question:what dop you think of cream reunion dvd??? i think its great.the only thing i didnt like is erics guitar sound its too conventional. but i like the show. it shows where jack ginger and eric are now days, they much more then nostalgic act.

My boyfriend's a Clapton fanatic, and I only casually listen to his music. Of the albums I know well enough to form an opinion on, I like his playing on Me and Mr. Johnson best of all. But, ya know, the pattern was already laid out for him by then.

Personally, I prefer his guitar playing during the Bluesbreakers/Cream period.
From Derek & The Dominos forward, he made a sound/playing change and IMO hasn't progressed much (as a player) since. The Cream reunion was a major letdown as i'd seen them just prior to the release of Disreali Gears when Clapton was playing full-tilt. During the reunion, he decides to use the guitar sound he has now... ...(Fender Strat/little amps), instead of the "Cream Sound" (Gibson SG/Marshall stacks). No wah-wah pedal on White Room? WTF! It was like he was just going through the motions. The tunes didn't have nearly the same impact. Derek & the Dominos is my favorite Clapton, with the Beano album a very, very close second. I agree, however, that most of his guitar work post-Cream is uninspired in comparison. I like a lot of it and I don't like a lot of it.
I haven't seen or heard any of the reunion stuff. a psychotic is someone who just figured out what's going on

Well, two things. He switched to Strats and he went off into first a JJ Cale "economy" playing style then he went into a Don Williams singing thing. We all know Strats can sing just ask Jimi and Jeff but Eric's playing sounding better with the Gibsons in Cream.
