Born of babbling lyrics hatched from Bosch eggshells in the Hyde-bound apocalyptic margins of the Cave brain, the Grinderman sound is an instinctual yawlp that also resurrects the demons of each musician’s past: the trashcan proselytising of Birthday Party -era Nick; Sclavunos' late 70s New York no-wave noise wisdom; Martyn Casey’s ominous Triffids bass reverb; plus Ellis' avant-garde soundtrack work and his teenage love of Black Sabbath. Destination: Out!

Nick Cave's also releasing a DVD/CD package of the Abattoir Blues & Nocturama tours on January 29th.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds will release a live double DVD on 29th January 2007. The release features several songs from their Gold selling album Abattoir Blues / The Lyre of Orpheus, in addition to an array of classic material from the band's repertoire.

The two disc DVD contains footage of two live concerts: Disc One is taken from the second of the band's three sold out Brixton Academy London shows filmed on 11th November 2004 during the "Abattoir Blues" European tour; the second disc offers excerpts from the Hammersmith Apollo show filmed on 7th June 2003 during the "Nocturama" tour.

The DVDs also include all the promotional videos from the last two albums, plus special bonus behind the scenes footage shot by Bad Seeds guitarist Mick Harvey during the making of the "Bring It On" video.

Holster it. The 2004 live - and subsequent solo versions - feature a rather silly extra verse about Stag meeting The Devil. You know what happens. I had mixed feelings about that Abattoir tour. Cave & Co were great as usual, and two thirds of Abattoir is wonderful, but instead of mixing up the set with old and new, they divided it into new (for an hour) and then played truncated versions of the old stuff. Still can't wait for the DVD though.
