Lenny Breau-http://www.youtube.com/wa...GcJAA4S6HQ
"master of the 7 string", equally effortless and masterful at jazz, flamenco, classical, country and any other style you can name.

Steve Hackett-http://www.youtube.com/wa...-cV2-HWoV0
One of the more tasteful and lyrical of the early prog rock greats, also a great classical guitarist and a pioneer of many of the techniques that would define "shred" playing like sweep-picking and two-handed tapping.

Regi Wooten-http://www.youtube.com/wa...K_MwYQ0tHM
Can play in the stately "piano" two-handed tapping style of Stanley Jordan, the polyrhythmic "thump/slap" style usually played by bassists, and can do everything a given "shredder" can do and more.

Clarence Gatemouth Brown-http://www.youtube.com/wa...uOVOp9l4B4
Often pigeonholed as a bluesman, but really a consumate eclecticist who plays jazz, cajun, blues and world music and is an accomplished soloist on guitar as well as violin, harmonica, mandolin, piano, bass, drums etc.

Chet Atkins

Thanks, and he's usually omitted from these guitar threads.
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

I was gonna mention Jeff Beck, but I don't have 2 now. Jimmy Nolen was more of an influence on me, so I had mention him 1st... he is ALWAYS overlooked.

This performance by Shawn blew me away...I am lucky that I saw him live in Sweden about ten years ago. He had the most amazing technique but this is good example that he had tons of emotion and feel in his playing. RIP Shawn! (the swede Hellborg on bass)

Here's an interesting clip of Shawn Lane and Allan Holdsworth having a nice little chat...hard to hear what the hell they're talking about but interesting.

And Here's one of my favorite Shawn Lane clips with Jonas Hellborg's fusion/raga band
