Whatever Happened To...

Do you guys remember?:

*Fonda Rae, "Over Like a Fat Rat", her cover of that song, "Hold me baby, touch me crazy, all night long."
*Sybil "Don't Make Me Over" (Lawd does that song bring back sweet college memories).
*Ce Ce Penniston "Finally" "We Gotta Love Thang" "Walk on"
Even Crystal Waters "Gypsy" "Makin Happy"

It's like they just disappeared?

Ce Ce was on Hit Me Baby One More Time last year. I don't know what is going on with her recording.

Now as for Fonda, you can read a (relatively) recent interview with her here. It's pretty cool. Interesting that she names Ce Ce's "Finally" as one of her favorite disco songs. "Touch Me" wasn't a cover; it was Cathy Dennis' who covered it and sucked all the funk out of it turning it into an early-90's pop hit.

And the others I don't know.

Cathy Dennis ROCKED!!! woot!

I think Crystal Waters is still doing club/house music...she had a lot of hits during the mid 90's...100% Pure Love being the biggest...wasn't that song bigger then Gypsy Woman?

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for update!. I'm sorry I got that wrong, didn't know Fonda Rae's "Touch Me" was the original.

Cathy Dennis should have never been allowed to do that song over. As Voicescarry stated, that song is completely without any soul or funk whatsoever, it's more bubblegum pop.

Cathy is a really fabulous pop songwriter so I do not begrudge her covering it. But when compared to the original, there's really no point in listening to it if you prefer funk. But if you are in the mood for some dance-pop it serves its purpose. Right around that time (1990), funk was on life support, though lol

you're right. Fonda has a deeper voice so her version carries more funk and a little deeper passion to it, especially when she starts breaking it down in the end.

Plus the drum machine hits HARD on Fonda's version. I respect Cathy for making it her own and not trying to "be true" to the original - because that would have been a damn mess lol

Isn't Crystal Waters the one who sings the song about a homeless woman, And then goes "LA DA DEE, LA DA DA, LA DA DEE, LA DA DA"? I couldn't stand that song.
