"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

What was the problems with the show? Too many to list..but the biggest issues were.. a) what was filmed and released on tv and to the public is NOT what really happened..its the best takes from two nights at madison square gardens in NYC..I went to both nights...there were like half an hour to 45 minute breaks after every performers tune...IT WAS NOT A CONCERT !!!!! b) Michael was hardly singing *if he even sang at all...all he did was say I LOVE YOU about 600 times..making a joke out of himself to me and everyone in my section of the hall...It simply SUCKED !!!!! Definitely a class above his brothers the when his voice hit the mic. And it was live no doubt. _ Music, sweet music, I wish I could caress and...kiss, kiss...

The Jacksons section of the show was live no doubt, although MJ solosection was mostly mimed. Jermaine sounded better than Michael in I'll be there...Michael had an dreadful vibrato in that song, I couldn't stand listening to it [Edited 11/20/06 5:46am]

I have to wonder if the question should be....does anyone still care if the Jacksons can deliver? I know I don't. Janet has been as boring as hell for years and the brothers haven't done anything that has interested me in a long time. Michael just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Sure, he had his day and he made some great music and I still enjoy a lot of it, but now he's just a joke really. If he still has it in him to deliver good music (and I mean good music) than he better start delivering because I heard his appearance the other night at the awards show was laughable and people are now demanding their money back. Trying to work with the latest so called "cool" producers won't help him IMHO. [Edited 11/20/06 8:16am]

Michael could maybe make a somewhat successful comeback. But that really depends on if he has his heart into it I think.
Janet doesn't seem to be as interesting in the publics eye anymore...maybe she should start trying to make some interesting music again... The brothers...hm...Jermaine had all the talents to be a prominent soloperformer and had some success during the 70's and 80's...but hey that was long time ago and he is over 50 years old now. naaa...I think what would be good for both the brothers and Michael is to join forces and make a Jacksonscomeback album with Michael as leadsinger and Jermaine as co-leadsinger. Maybe that would help people remember the Jackson family for what they used to be famous of. Unfortunenately this will probably never happen because of Michaels megalomania and obsession of record sales. Rebbie and La Toya will never get any success again as far as I can see. To sum it up: I think the Jackson days are over...unless someone (other than 3T) in the next generation will hit the public...

MICHAEL JACKSON... still has got it... but the other jacksons are too big and lazy to comeback and perform...
awwww... that sounds kinda mean... I dont mean to be that mean... but I feel like they just let themselves go... and Tito, Jermaine, and Randy all still live in the Jackson house with their ex-wives and girlfriends and kids. Also Randy and i think its Jermaine... has the same mother for their children. I think the woman was Jermaines wife or girlfriend and then she later dated Randy and had a baby with both of them... and she lives in the house too... Also janet is helping to pay the bills... so thats why i think they are lazy

Now to answer the original question, The Jacksons were never a "band" in the same fashion as Earth, Wind & Fire, or Maze in which they played instruments, they were just performers. But I do agree that they are very lazy musically speaking. They haven't put out new material since '89. But this is the best time for them, and Michael solo to put out an album for their die hard fans only if they had an indie label, the days of being signed to a major label, selling millions of albums, touring, being #1 on the Billboard charts are dead. It doesn't mean anything anymore, hell Prince proved that. If Janet would have released her CD on her own indie label, she would have been crying all the way to the bank.

They did play instruments, well some of them did; Tito and Jermaine weren't holding those guitars just for show, you know(They played most instruments than the Temps or 4 Tops, who were more mature as groups.) And personally I think the J5/Jacksons are one of the most underrated groups ever. They were original, inspirational and as some one said put out some of the best dance/RnB/pop music out there back in the day. And although during their Motown days most of their songs were written and produce by others(there was NO way berry Gordy was going to allow some 11 yr old to write their own stuff ) their latter albums like Destiny, Truimph and even some of Goin Places were self-penned. And quite, frankly album likes Destiny and Truimph are 10 times better than most of Michael's solo stuff, IMO. The reasons why I don't think they can deliver now, is that Michael and his brothers have obviously grown apart and I just think it wouldn't really work the way it once did, especially with all Michael problems. The second problem is their age, when most people think of the Jackon 5 people think of energy, youth and exuberance, I just don't think they will have the energy to pull those kind of energetic performances off. I mean Jackie's in his mid 50's now, and Michael is two years shy of his 50 birthday this means if they tour they have to do a very, slow, down versions of old performances and the J5 shuffling across the stage like Old men, just wouldn't be the Jackson 5 .... [Edited 11/21/06 20:40pm] [Edited 11/21/06 20:41pm] I agree... Tito was a decent guitarist, Jermaine really could get the groove going with his bass and not to forget Randy who is/was a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, keyboards congas etc). Jackie and Randy were good songwriters and composers and some of the material on the first Epic record with Gamble/Huff "The Jacksons" were also written by the brothers. Proof they really could play: http://www.youtube.com/wa...3DKh1iVK5c Here follows two reasons the Jacksons seems to be so underrated are IMO: 1, The fact that brother Michael's talent is so obvious wich overshadows the rest 2. The only brother except Michael that is a good leadvocalist is Jermaine. The other brothers just aren't cut out to be leadsingers but unfortunately they don't seem to realize this maybe because of their egos so instead of focusing on what their talents are (composing, production, backgroundvocals, dancing, playing instruments etc) they try to emulate Michael and fall flat in the publics eye. No,they cannot.I hate to say this, but the Jacksons are officially over. They'vce been over for years now.The only reason fans flocked to see them in 1984 on the 'Victory' tour is because of Michael. After he made 'Off The Wall',the other brothers became irrelvent, imo.

Also I hear that the underground scene are really getting into the Jackson 5 latter material with Motown, like MOVING VIOLATIONS and G.I.T. I personally believe that YOUTUBE has shown how great MJ was with his brothers, both has a singer and dancer. Infact has a dancer I think he was best in his late teens/early 20s, partly due to age and secondly because he was still very much in touch with his black side(I am sorry if that sounds rascist). One minute he was dancing with the Nicholas brothers, doing tap or doing some big Jazz contemporary dancing and the next minute he was getting down like a funky, sassy brotha in a club...
