I am one of them, however it seems that a lot of black men are forever going on about being proud yet they want light skinned women. Yes, I believe this to be mostly true. i kinda get what your sayin' but not really being proud has nothing to do with preference of skin color-light skinned women are black to . its more of a learned mindset of what the standard of beauty is (european) in the US instead. oh we have been totally brainwashed when it comes to skin color. it's really sad but unfortunately Kanye only admitted something taht most people already think anyway.

Walk down my street naked, will ya? Let me charge the battery in my videocam! You're not a sellout if you date outside your race. You are a sellout if you date outside and then blame your own race for being the reason you're dating outside your race. You're a sellout if you date for "status". You're a sellout if you publicly denounce and generalize your own people to gain approval from another race.
Dating is and always should be an individual thing, not a race thing.

thought i was going to stay out of this subject because it was dealing about "race" but i had to say a few words. First of all, If Kayne was smart he would realize that if you look and search through your family and its origins, we are all "mixed" so to speak, and also its not so much his comment of "mutts" is offensive but i think the problem is just the way women are viewed in general especially in Kayne's genre meaning Hip-Hop and also Latin Reggaeton artists can fall into this category too, since they are exploiting for "their" own gain. I mean be serious, do alot of Rap/Reggae artists think other guys watch their videos to hear what they are saying? no they are looking to see what Video girl they got for this video, and Kayne is no better. So his term "mutt" really not offensive, since i have heard Jessica Alba and Mariah Carey refer to themselves as "mutts", but its more his view of women, and his lack of history knowledge which shows we are all a product of the Human Race. I think a lot of people have a problem with anything Kanye says just because its coming from Kanye. I can't agree that dude is ignorant of his history. Out of the rappers out he seems to be one of the more informed rappers. He just needs a filter when he speaks outside of his music. People are on here frontin' like "mutts" is some new shit but really, comments taken out of the context of conversation are almost always misunderstood. I'd like to see the whole conversation and grasp an understanding of how formal or informal the interview was. All of that has bearing on how somebody speaks although Kanye is not one of the best examples of articulation at its finest.

But its par for the course, everyone says the same about Elton and recently people wanted to lynch him because he said "religion should be banned", so its the price of fame, Kayne knows exactly what he is doing he is not a victim of the media by any means. According to a person close to the Essence story, Kanye reportedly told the magazine, "If it wasn't for race mixing, there'd be no video girls." Then, as if his first comment wasn't offensive enough, Kanye referred to biracial women as dogs. The rapper told, "Me and most of my friends like mutts a lot ... Yeah, in the hood they call 'em mutts." Developing... First of all, Kanye is from THE HOOD? News to me... I've never heard that term used before... I dunno. I think this constant 'foot in mouth' thing he's got going is annoying in an endearing sort of way... He does say the darndest things. heh [Edited 11/18/06 12:41pm] Chuck D Kanye West ain't... This is no suprise but I think this may have been taken out of context ya'll. Hip Hop that I know and love is R.E.A.L. and I have 2 do a lil more research 2 C if this is REALLY True... I'd love to know in what context "mutt" used to refer to a biracial women would have us all nodding our heads and going "Ah yes, that Kayne fellow is on point"... but anway, I do think people are over-reacting to this comment. As a biracial woman I can honestly say I wasn't offended at all by this. It speaks of more of what an idiot Kanye is than anything about me other others like me. I dunno, maybe reddish-brown skin is thicker than the average, but I have no problem brushing this off as dumbassery and don't see why others can't as well.

Dancerella, are you from England? Because in the UK, many black guys will not be seen dead with a black girl period, let alone a dark, skin black girl. I mean I have no problem with interracial relationships either, but there is something that is happening in the UK that seems odd, you rarely see black couples together, anymore. And as you have said black men still have a problem with black women dating outside their race, ironically, even though they wouldn't date them, theirselves. Kanye has a big mouth, but somehow or another he always hits a nerve.

this brings up an interesting point> Do you financially support artist who, in your opinion, have made comments that you feel are insulting to you and yours? For example, I really liked Guns and Roses before the whole "One in a Million" thing. From that point, no matter how much I liked their music I could not buy it. Same w/ Pantera. Same w/ the Doors. Hell, the same with Kramer(bad Kramer ) If Kanye really said this, will you still buy his music ( if you were a fan to begin with?) A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

i try not to. i don't always keep up with their personal info so it's sometime hard for me to tell, but yeah something like this- i don't buy it. i went off rap/hip-hop in general in the early 90's bcos i refused to spend $10-15 to have someone swear at me and call me derogatory names. it hasn't changed much. i feel the same way about a lot of the "cock-rock" and "horror rock ala marylin manson" stuff..... as a woman i just can't endorse a lot of it. Unfortunately, it's true. A few people on another board that I post on read the article and confirmed that he said it. If you have a subscription to Essence, you get it before it hits the stands. Still, his comments were stupid, not racist. Racist wouldn't even be the correct term since he said nothing with a negative intent AND he was expressing his admiration for biracial women regardless of how uncouth it came off. Hypersensitivity and ignorance are a bad combination. Here is [the deal; when Kanye speaks, he speaks to the hood. The Chi-town 42nd street brotha comes out in him. He's speaking to an audience that knows what he's talking about (Essence magazine's primary target is a black audience). The people most upset are WHITE PEOPLE who don't understand where he's coming from and hypersensitive black people. Since he has made a reputation of making an ass out of himself, there are many people who simply want to bash him but calling him RACIST is too far; especially considering some of the sources using the term.
