Mayer is talented, when it comes to covering other peoples songs
but when it comes to his own material he's weak,
only song i ever liked was Clarity...
song writing was crisp and so was the production

^the Continuum album is better than ALL the albums he's put out before, you should check it out if you haven't yet

Mayer is a masterful rhythm guitarist and he doesn't get the credit, because he's a David Mathews Hooting & the Blow Fish Love child,
I still to this day say that in 1998 Mayer bought himself a delorean time machine traveled to 2000 and stole all of Jack Johnsons Material, for that bullshit EP he released Inside Wan'ts Out. Essentially because i prefer Jack Johnson to Mayer, songwriting wise, I even dig the new David Mathews, Elvis costello rip off Daniel powter. But i can't get into mayer and his own musical material, honest to god i've tried, but he just seriously pisses me off, Cause his titles are so good, but the song is never what you espect, for example in continuum, there was this song called "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room", i first envisioned to be this Sweltering hot minor key ballad, low and behold its his major key sad bastard music, that hes famous for, put your body is a wonderland in a blender added some dog shit and came up with that peice of shit. and i was like "That Fucker Fooled Me". just got fed up with it, and returned the album, hes just not my cup of tea. But then i saw him live, and he wwas performing a bunch of covers, and rocked the shit out of them!, his guitars play is top notch, ive seen mayer do things with an acoustic guitar, the most revered pplayers can't do. And its very admiring , cause rhythm guitarist never get any credit. which is why he always tries harder to impress cats like me lol.

What i would like mayer to do, is like a cover album, of funk songs,
classic funk songs, like to hear Mayer sing, Not Just , Knee Deep, or Mary Jane, or even fuckin Kiss by prince
it would be kinda cool.
but as for his personal material i can't stand it

I don't like John's lead single though. It sounds just like Curtis Mayfield's song. & I just don't like it. He should've released Belief instead. That song is hot. I want him to release Vultures too.

Me too. He looks too cool with that look. I saw him at Rockerfeller Center when performed for The Today Show in August and I was really impressed. I have total respect for him because he's a real musician. I only know about his singles and I've liked most of them. Someone like him deserves to be a huge superstar. For real.
