A thread for all the bass players on the .org

When did you start playing bass?
Your gear?
What kind of music do you play?
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

... boxed...does that include 'well, kinda-sorta--sometimes-play-the-bass'--type of players confused? This would definitely be my category lol

I'm really a guitar player, but I started playing bass around the same time, about 1986.

You can see my crappy Aria bass in my avatar. I don't have an amp right now, they're too damn big! I plug in direct if I need to record, something that sounds much better with bass than guitar.

I've ended up playing a lot of bass just because they are in higher demand. I play guitar in the band I'm in right now, but I've played bass with them too.

My favorite bassline is Sir Nose D'Voidoffunk (Pay Attention-B3M) but I also think some of the later Beatles stuff like Something is really good.

Also Les Claypool, Flea, Louis Johnson, John Entwistle, Stanley Clarke, Rhonda, even Prince is pretty damn good!

I started out playing clarinet through grade school and high school( I wanted to play drums, but Moms wasn't havin' it, lol !).... But I think I found myself gravitating toward the sound of the bass in through the mid to late 70's, when Louis Johnson, Jaco, Stanley Clarke and Bootsy were hitting their stride...but I think the first bassline I really concentrated on was actually Bill Wyman's, on the Rolling Stone's hit, 'Miss You'...for some reason, that was the first time that I thought , "hmmm,...I wonder if I could play that...Then I heard Mark Adams of Slave, and I was like, "Oh Yeah, now that's Kool!! I really should learn to play Bass"....

Still, I didn't actually buy a bass until years later, when I heard Level 42's Mark King, on the track, "The Pursuit Of Accidents"..That's when I went, "Alright, Dammit!! These MF's are havin' way too much Fun, Lol!!!! I'm gettin' a Bass!" lol

My first Bass was a Grey Peavey Bass with a Peavey Amp. The Funny thing is, even after I got other basses over the years, like Fender and Ibanez, I still keep coming back to that grey Peavey. I just like the feel and the sound....

I just play as a hobby. A friend of mine ("Elroy") plays Keys, and has a makeshift studio set up at his house, so a lot of us just get together when we can to jam and record there...

I've got a Samick four string bass guitar with a 100 watt combo Crate bass amp.

(You've got to have at least a 100 watt amp if playing with a loud drummer)

I listen for any groove progression I hear on the radio/tv.
funk,rock,blues,country, and gospel
