I can't believe no one's mentioned Bernard Herrmann's scores for all of those Hitchcock films. Especially Vertigo.

The Passion of The Christ. Glorious stuff. But Terence Blanchard's "Malcolm X Score" is my all-time favorite.

I love listening to film scores. Here are a few of my favorites:
Powder The Silence of the Lambs Brokeback Mountain Schindler's List The Red Violin Star Wars E.T. Dr. Zhivago The Hours The Man Without A Face Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Memoirs of a Geisha Sleeping With the Enemy Amelie Life Is Beautiful Boogie Nights Born On the Fourth of July Million Dollar Baby Forrest Gump The Godfather Stealing Home This is all just off the top of my head. I always listen for the film score when I watch a movie. All of the ones in these movies are used incredibly well and are all beautifully written and performed.

he did...but, this is the org. we dont follow rules around here. I think most of the reponses are still for background scores, though...I did list the Purple Rain cover, but that's because Michel Colombier's score for the movie was never released commercially (except for his piece, "Spring" [used when Appolonia gave prince the guitar] that was released on a solo album)..... ... I've mentioned all these before. But they bear repeating due to their greatness.
Latcho Drom Days of Heaven The Piano Dead Man Soundtrack improvised by Neil Young Rock and Roll High School I guess some of these were lifted, but they qualify under the friggen love category.
