recently re-discovered 101 (on cassette, no less) and it sounds incredible! I really dig their older stuff. Especially the period where they stopped being all bubble-gummed out and got moody.

Stripped
Question of Lust
Black Celebration
Nothing
Strangelove
Waiting on the Night
Somebody
Blasphemous Rumors
Shake the Disease
Everything Counts
Fly on the Windscreen
Enjoy he Silence

the list goes on...
A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

When I was younger, my parents used to play the shit out of Violator, so I'd always known and loved that album. But when I was in college, one of my roommates was a huge Depeche-head, and he turned me on to the rest of their catalog. Since then, they've become one of my favorite bands of all time. I dig pretty much their entire catalog, but my favorite period would probably stretch from 'Black Celebration' through 'Exciter'. I think those are their best albums, probably with 'Violator', 'Ultra', Music For the Masses', and 'Faith and Devotion' being the best of the bunch.

I think that 'Ultra' and 'Exciter' are unfortunately underrated, 'Ultra' especially. The combination of jazz, synth pop, and grunge sounds really bizarre on paper, but actually comes together really beautifully.

Badass.

Alright, so I'm mid-20s. Violator came out in 1990, so I was 8-ish. shrug lol

Amen. Everything about "Ultra" is perfection. It's one of their biggest stylistic risks and they totally pull it off.
