Hey do you guys remember "Hot! Hot! Hot!" by Buster Poindexter?

How can you not have a party to that song? I think that is funny that he is David Johanson from the New York Dolls. Does anyone eles remember this song?

Sure, I remember it. I think it is a cover, but I can't remember who the original artist was.

I certainly do. See, this song has special meaning to me. I am from the island of Trinidad. The original composer of this song is a caylpsonian named Arrow. This song is at least 20 years old and is considered one of they original caylpso's. When Arrow sold the rights, the people of Trinidad looked at it as an act of "selling out". Quite frankly, I think Buster's version, sucks!!. It completely, adds nothing to the original. It is just a bunch of noise. Ironically, a guy by the name of Byron Lee and his band, did a much better cover, in my opinon.

My parents are from Trinidad and I agree that Johansen's cover sucks big time. I'm not a fan of calypso to begin with, but I'd much rather hear Arrow's version.

Calypso, if it is done right, is very good. I like old time Calypso like, The Mighty Sparrow and Lord Kitchner...these are the kings of the music, they know how to tell a great story. I do not like these new artist....Calypso, is all about the story...today's version has very little story and too much nonsense....I would advise u to check out the masters....cause in actuality, it is a part of your heritage....

I really like this album too. Took a while to grow on me, but now I'm convinced it's better than anything the Stones have done in year.

I've heard it all. It seems like my parents played calypso non-stop when I was growing up. I still hear it all the time when I go on road trips with them. I gave in once and went with them to see Sparrow perform in a small hall in Pennsylvania a few years ago. The opening act was Ray, Goodman & Brown (formerly The Moments). I admit Sparrow was very entertaining.

it's not exactly one of my faves for the year, but it's a really nice, rockin', thoughtful album and you make a great point - it's more full of life than anything the stones have released in about 20 years (at least!).
