Irene Cara singing "Fame"/"Out here on my own" at the 1981 Oscars

There`s nothing like Irene Cara, she had it all... Too bad she only released 3 albums.

Check her out in Season 2 of "What's Happening". She played a girl named Maria who needed to marry Rerun to stay in the country. LOL

She had a great voice back in the day.....

The TV series was crap anyway lol Irene went on to bigger and better things. She had that huge hit from "Flashdance" and released a very good album in 1984.Remember the singles "Why Me" and "Breakdance"? music

I`m not to crazy about "Why me", but the energetic "Breakdance" is brilliant!
The "What a feeling" album is good, i especially like the ballad "You were made for me"
I think she had a great deal of talent, but the material wasn`t always the best. I bough "Anyone can see" on lp a while ago, but most of the songs were just fillers.

A little off topic, but since i know you`re a big Natalie Cole fan too...
I found the rare cd single of "Pink cadillac" recently, and it included the "Club vocal" version. Have you heard this remix?

oh, i just found the video...

Interestingly, the 'What A Feeling' album was produced by Giorgio Moroder, who was Donna Summer's old producer (before they went their separate ways in 1981).Many people always said that Irene sounds like a young Donna Summer,so it made perfect sense for her to use Donna's producer.Irene got to have all the material that probably would have went to Donna. It's rumored that Giorgio originally wanted Donna to sing "Flashdance...What A Feeling" but gave it to Irene instead. It became the biggest hit of the summer of '83.

Was it remixed by C&C Music Factory? I think they are responsible for that remix. When that song was released as a single in 1988,they used a remix version for the single and video.A smart move, because the regular album version is a snooze-fest....a boring, uneventful tune. The remixed version (which isn't the same remix used in that video that you posted) is superior.

I was familiar with the album version, and yeah, it`s not her best song, to put it that way.
The single also included a great song called "I wanna be that woman", which really should have been on the album, it`s that good!
