I have seen enough of them to notice a few things.. but what I want to talk about is Paula Abdul.

WHY is she there? WHY is she talking about if you are in "the correct vocal key".. or "your voice was off there"

when SHE couldn't hit any of her HIGH NOTES on her album.. they paid the chick from The Mary Jane Girls.. to hit MOST of Paula's high notes.

This is why she disappeared from the Music Biz..

Right after Milli Vinilli got caught.. Bobby Brown & Paula Abdul both were in the news for not giving credit to others for singing parts/most of their songs ..well "help" sing most of their songs.

so WHY is Paula acting like she knows about "singing".. why doesn't a contestant or Simon bring this up about her

I thought the same thing when Paula made that comment. But U don't have 2 be a great singer to recognize if someone else can sing or not. So her personal credentials may not be that strong but she was right in that the singer was off key at one point...Also yes, the studio def "enhances" her voice but "Rush" is still one of those ballads that I will always stop 2 listen 2.

This show is gonna produce an act that's gonna get major airplay...the top 7 will all b heard in one way or another...and they all suck!

That's the real problem.

I think they hired her cause she can pull of that oh-so-fucking nice/goodie 2 shoes act. Sort of a counter to Simon.

I've thought about this too. But then I thought about how Simon has confessed that he can't sing a lick. Isn't it odd to have a show like this where a judge is judging a vocalist when he has no vocal ability whatsoever? I mean, I understand that you can judge and hear things properly without vocal training, but how to you give anyone constructive criticism if you really know nothing about singing. The answer is- you don't. You just say that they suck, send them crying, and get a big fat paycheck and become a big celebrity. Not that his shenanigans aren't entertaining...

Not that I'm a supporter of Paula, but she does not have to have a good voice to recognize talent. She has admitted to being rejected and criticized more than these kids and has been through the biz machine...maybe from her experience she can honestly judge the contestants knowing what works and does not work for artists in the business. Her role is to be the "cheerleader" and to balance Simon's harshness, so all of her comments are positive. She is not there to be judged, rather, to give the kids a voice of support as person has been a pop idol. I'm not a fan but she seems like a nice enough person and seems pretty together considering her career has been less that stellar.

I happen to think it's strange watching Paula Abdul judge and critique some of the singers on American Idol who could sing circles around her any day! Paula was able to make a brief mark in the biz mainly because of her looks and dancing-not because of her vocal skills.

I know she's supposedly the "nice" one of the crew so maybe she's there for moral support???

is she really critiquing or just pandering to viewers?
I dont think I ever heard her say anything negative about a performer.She even gets on Simon's case when he gives didnt like a performance.
Last night she was struggling to say what was wrong with Justin's?(the kid with the afro) performance

I've never really forgiven her for marrying Emilio Estefez.

The forthcoming UK series has Geri Halliwell (Of Spice Girls fame judging).

I don't like the show, why cause its wack and the producers NOT interested in longevity of those performers who appear on the show...it about making a quick buck and moving on to the next pound of MEAT who are just puppets! IMO its gonna end up like Popstars and Making of a Band.
Sure at the beginning both were huge rating winners and the
hosts/judges got their 15 minutes of fame...but since of hype ofthose shows slowed down those "winners" have struggled for credibility (eg. O-Town and Eden's Garden...remember them???) The bottom line its a fad! and jugding by the last episode the AI is fixed too! Tamyra got screwed over! Plus that Simon is one fucked up asswhole...I read his interviews where he disses everyone in the biz...yet he is some D-grade celeb in the UK. If he is so self-righteous why don't he get up there and sing?? Punk ass bitch deserves a good slap!!!

Most of you are right about Paula...yet you don't have to be able to sing to tell if someone can sing or not, or rather they're 'flat or sharp' it just takes a person with a strong auditory sense.

I can't sing a lick (but I can sing on key, a ha). I'm a musician though, I play all woodwind instruments, so I can tell rather or not someone's a singer, or someone who can sing.
