Sufjan Stevens in Paradiso! I know this looks like the thread the other guy did a couple of weeks ago who went to a Sufjan concert, but I don't care!
Last saturday I saw Sufjan Stevens in Paradiso Amsterdam! It was the greatest musical experience I ever had! His voice was even more angelic and yet powerful compaired to his albums. The different arrangements for the songs were mindblowing, that's all I can say about that! He opened with Sister, wearing a butterfly mask and wings, surrounded by a whole army of inflatable Supermens and Santa's. I happen to get one cause my friend caught one and gave it to me. (thanks again!) Highlights: The Predatory Wasp Of The Palasides.. with a great long outro accompanied by a story he told us about his youth on wich the song was based about a gigantic bird with an elephanthead and wasp eyes chasing him and his friend.. Crazy! And he did a new song called Snowbird, I'm dying to hear the studio version now! After Sufjan and his 'Butterfly Kite Band' or something like that, left the stage the whole crowd gave him a long standing ovation. So he came back alone to do a very moving acoustic version of John Wayne Gacy Jr. just him and his guitar. Then his band also returned to give us Chicago and he closed with the Dress Looks Nice On You. What an artist.. [Edited 11/13/06 12:20pm] | |
