And my answer would be yes. Marvin Gaye reportedly said, after 1999 came out, "everybody's talking about this cat Prince. Don't they know that I'm supposed to be the only Prince." And he could say that. He's Marvin-hot-durn-Gaye. Sly is Sly and Stevie is Stevie. They had the cred to say something like that to the new kid who was clearly influenced by their sound. Isel said: This is from Janet's Friends. I'd provide a link, but you would have to be a registered member to see it. Go to the Janet's Friends website.
Apparently the quote that supposed to be about Janet is actually about Jared Leto and his band --according to Gil(Janet's omnipresent best friend/choreographer) and this guy who talks to him on occassion. He was dissing Cameron Diaz's ex, Jared Leto, and his band 30 Seconds To Mars. Jared was on TV being coy about whether or not him and Cameron were going ot get back together, instead of just saying no. "Let me clear the air...." And he was making fun of their band. That actually makes more sense. Dissing Prince and.... Jared Leto wtf!

If so, which one? I honestly don't hear one lick of Prince in "SexyBack". Anyway I digress.....What lyrics are you talking about? "To whom it may Concern, There are No Kings in this World only Princes"? Big Deal! They were both EQUAL RIVALS OF THE SAME ERA, like The Beatles vs the Rolling Stones. It was a respectful beef, plus there are a few stories of Prince having met Michael on a few occasions. 2004, Prince was asked what he thought about Michael on a radio interview and he called him "a genius" and said Janet was the "sister of a genius". Plus when Michael was going through his second molestation fiasco, Prince never said anything against him. There have been many stories of Prince being a jerk, but he would never diss anyone he respected or borrowed from or kick a person when they are down. Rick James, Marvin Gaye, Sly Stone have all said things against Prince, but he never came out against them. Justin disrespected Jackson family and Prince trying to make a name for himself or get himself off the hook, he sucks as a person and I hope he pisses off the wrong person and gets his teeth kicked in! Hows that for truf? dude that self righteous post just proved my point lol and i wasnt talkin about that obscure reference to monarchy was talkin about the illusion coma pimp alleged reference Oh is that the point you were making? I mistook you for another self-righteous Prince fan hater who joined the org to make generalizing, one-sided, pointless statements to piss people off....so sorry.

nuf'said right there.. what is Justin smokin' that he could dare to even think to come challenge this?? .. I don't know but there's more SEXY in that little curl of hair than Justin could ever hope and pray to possess. He needs to go back to imitating Michael Jackson and stay the hell out of the grown and sexy realm, he's got no place here!

Justin's a fool, mocking Janet for her poor chart placings. The same will happen to him one day - and sooner than it did with Janet. Silly pathetic little knob. There are three sides to every story. You know what? I'm sure Janet herself told Justin to be quiet so she could come up with her own version of what happened. She had many different positioning statements about the incident during that period.

Whether going around at the Grammys with his mom and "apologizing" on stage or saying "We gave you what you really wanted" right after the performance, or mentioning that he thought the media may have given Janet a bad time because she was a woman, and, you know, "ethnic". Janet basically refused to talk about the SB until Oprah, and she said that is the LAST time she will talk about it. [Edited 12/1/06 7:17am]

Janet basically refused to talk about the SB until Oprah, and she said that is the LAST time she will talk about it. Regarding whether it was an accident or not: 1. I do not believe that Janet was stupid enough to believe that such an incident could have been anything but damaging to her career and legacy. She was coming off a very successful project (All For You) and had absolutely no reason to do it. But then Madonna had absolutely no reason to gross everyone out with Erotica, and yet..... Janet also had to know that as a black woman she would get much more flack than a white artist would have received. And the ridiculously disproportionate response pretty much confirmed it. 2. I think both their reactions when it happened were genuine. I think if anything was planned it was planned at the last minute and not in rehearsals, and I *do* think it went further than they wanted. 3. Timberlake tried to capitalize on it with his comments immediately after the incident, because he realized that it would cause a sensation, although at that point I don't think he envisioned the backlash. He implied that it was planned, but I don't believe anything that comes out of Timberlake's mouth and his behavior towards women (ex. I took Britney's virginity) has never inspired confidence in his statements. 4. Regardless, Janet's career for a lot of people is now reduced to a large joke and she will never live it down. While the guy goes on and has his biggest hits ever. Only in America.
