Music your Parents played whilst you were growing up My Dad was a Brook Benton/Jim Reeves fan. And songs like "roses are red" by Jim Reeves and "Someday" by Brook Benton was forever on our stereo on a Sunday afternoon.
What artists were played in your household as part of your childhood.?

My dad was a big Marvin Gaye fan and the "What's Going On" album would be played on the regular...
My mom is a big M.J. fan, so all I basically heard or remember in my younger years are Billy Jean, Thriller, and the whole Bad album. My fav. song i liked to hear was the "Speed Demon" song, plus it always sounded like he was sneezing in the beginning of the song i.e. (chu, chu...) you get me? Then after I started walking, my parents would sit me in front of the tv to keep me occupied....the channel was either on "The Price is Right" or MTV, this is where I remember hearing/looking at the early vids of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears; "Carribean Queen" by Billy Ocean; "I'm Only Human" by ummmm, shucks i forgot the name of the group, but they were british. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Too many to name.....a bunch of funk, classic R&B, soul artists. Otis Redding,James Brown,Gap Band, Earth Wind and Fire etc.....pretty much any similar artist. My dad was pretty much strictly motown, funk, soul. My mom would listen to all of that, but loved Sade, Luther Vandross, some light rock like Phil Collins's solo stuff. She liked The Eagles too. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

My parents were strictly 60s and 50s people so all the music they listen to were from those eras. I thought peeps like Brook Benton and Percy Sledge were naff at the time, but now I have come to appreciate those artists and I think Brook Benton is very underrated. He was as good if not better than Nat King Cole.

My dad was really into jazz/fusion during the 70s and 80s--Bob James, Spyro Gyra, Earl Klugh, David Sanborn, Tom Scott, etc. He played those records a lot--and totally turned me off to that genre.
The type of music I heard the most though was calypso. My family being from the Caribbean, they played that to death. Now I can't stand calypso.

Being the son of a Pentecostal Minister, It was nothing but Gospel music. They played a lot of Andre Crouch, and Walter Hawkins & The Love Alive Choir. Secular music was banned, so I had to go to friends houses to listen to those sinful Prince albums

My dad was definitely a music snob - he would never listen to anything as common as pop music. Almost solely classical with a smattering of old jazz and showtunes.
I can't recall my mother ever listening to anything other than public radio.

Ha, my parents had exactly one Beatles record--the Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band Soundtrack. For the longest time the only version of "Come Together" I knew was Aerosmith's. Same goes for the Bee Gees' cover of the title song.

It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

My Dad had one Beatles album, the one where they were crossing the Zebra crossing, but he never played it. It was all Brook Benton, JIm reeves, Percy Sledge and a little of bit of James Brown and Ray Charles. My mother on the other hand was into everything from Elvis to Motown to Abba. When Michael's OTW album came out I remember her pounding the cassava to "Don't Stop Till you Get enough". One of my fondest memories of my mum. [Edited 11/13/06 11:39am]
