Jim Jones

What do you guys think of him? I like his song "we fly high". He has an unusual voice for a rapper. He looks kind crusty but there's something sexy about him.

His remake of "Boyz In Da Hood" is the only hot track he's ever done that I've heard.

oh, he was a famous cult leader that got a bunch of people to kill themselves, in a nutshell. Not that they killed themselves while they were in nutshells, but I meant to make a long story short actually.

Here, an excerpt from Wikipedia:

James Warren "Jim" Jones (May 13, 1931 – November 18, 1978) was the American founder of the Peoples Temple cult. On November 18, 1978, most Peoples Temple members committed mass suicide by drinking poison in their isolated agricultural intentional community called Jonestown, located in the country of Guyana. Jones was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head among the 914 corpses there.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Jones

Although Wikipedia informs us that it was actually Flavor-Aid rather than Kool-Aid that they drank. Too cheap to splurge for the good stuff I guess.

I was thinking of the same person when I opened this thread. I was expecting to see something like...."Which performer would you die for if they told you to kill yourself?". lol

It would have been a good thread for a lot of the purple Kool-Aid drinkers at the NPG Music Club...."Would you kill yourself if Prince asked you to?". lol

CoolMF

Not too big on Jim Jones. I like his swagger and a few of his earlier tunes, but he's another one of these new breed rappers (i.e. Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, Young Dro, Young Joc) that have great beats and images, but can't rap for ish! I just get tired of these same simplistic rhymes about how many guns you have and drugs you sell. Put another way, I'm tired of lyrics that end with 1-syllable rhymes. For real, rappers need to step their game up. I appreciate Lil' Wayne, Big Boi, The Game, and The Lox for constantly improving on their lyrical delivery with each release.

Hopefully, the new releases from Jay-Z and Nas will force rappers to step up their lyrics just as they did when they hit the market with Blueprint and Stillmatic.
