Every chance I get I put "Encore" on a "Dance Party" CD next to "Saturday Love" by Alexander and Cherelle, "Reflections By Luther and "Stoned Love by The Supremes. "The first time I saw the cover of Dirty Mind in the early 80s I thought, 'Is this some drag queen ripping on Freddie Prinze?'" - Some guy on The Gear Page

OHHHHH This is the jam right here!!! I heard the song on the radio a while back and I knew I had to find it on iTunes and sure enought it was there. That song is so funky. How can you not dance to it. Plus doesn't Encore have the Linn Drum in it? That drum beat says Prince all over it. Great jam! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I like to beatbox those first few bars of bassline before the first chorus starts.

I would have to go home and pull my 45 to be sure but, if I'm not mistaken, I believe it is a Jam and Lewis production. Andy is a four letter word.

I love the video for this song too. A great laugh!
How come Jam/Lewis can make music like this anymore?

LL Cool J sampled it on "Ahh, Let's Get Ill" (during the chorus)!

Great track - probably my favorite by Cheryl Lynn! Classic Jam & Lewis production. Jellybean Johnson and Monte Moir played on that track too - brings back fond memories! I was into the Minneapolis sound big time back then, and when Purple Rain dropped the following year, all hell broke loose!
I just wish the album version had been included on Cheryl's Best Of CD instead of the 7" single...

Terry Lewis' bass line on this song is sick. And I do remember thinking of Prince when this song came out..why I don't know. Classic jam.

I have Cheryl's 'Best Of' CD and it is really disappointing. As you pointed out,it contains the single edit of "Encore".In addition,it's missing several singles ("Instant Love","In The Night","New Dress",etc).A very flawed compilation.Cheryl deserves better.

It says it's the 7" version, but I have the 45 and the version on the compilation is neither the single, nor the album version. On the 45, the song fades out. On the compilation, it seems like they took the single and edited in the album version ending with the audience cheering. Andy is a four letter word.
